Every time I hear about the upcoming Star Wars TV series that isn't really going to be about the main plot and characters of the films, I get whiny.
Why can't we see the events that happen in
Dark Lord?
Why can't we see the rise of the Rebellion?
Why can't we see Han Solo winning the Millenium Falcon away from Lando?
Why can't we have a glimpse at Obi-wan in the cave, communing with Qui-gon?
WHY? WHY? WHY????
There are so many hours and hours of TV/films that could be created from that vast canyon of time between the end of the PT and the beginning of the OT. It's almost like Star Wars is headed to eternal purgatory now...doomed to the abyss of the lost 19 years. I am just not happy about that!
But an idea for redemption popped into my weary brain this afternoon while thinking about a new friend and what brought us "together."
Outlander.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Diana Gabaldon and her amazing series of time travel stories, I give you
this link to her website. Like some of you are addicted to Serenity and Firefly (all of which I purchased and have yet to watch...I know Rex...you don't have to say it...SLACKER!), I am addicted to the 6 (so far) Outlander novels. There's just something about a time traveling Wolrd War ll nurse and her 18th century Scottish Highlander husband that stirs my imagination like nothing else.
So I started thinking...Outlander...Anakin. Outlander...Time travel...Anakin. Time travel...Anakin...Star Wars. TIME TRAVEL...STAR WARS!!!!
A fan of the TV series Quantum Leap, it is clear to me that there is some audience for such an idea. Where Quantum Leap had Scott Bakula's Sam Beckett, my SW TV series would have any of the characters leaping in time to...well...anywhere.
Just think! Even if we can't see the main characters exactly as we know them in the films, some of the lesser characters could jump to other times in their lives...earlier...later...anywhere in the EU...to answer burning questions that even the most die hard The-Films-Are-Canon fans could appreciate! The possibilities are endless! I, for one, would love to see Tion Medon escape his Imperial captivity after Order 66 and go back in time to investigate the events that led to the Order in the first place. Maybe Medon could be the catalyst that would lead us to solve the mystery of exactly how the clones came to follow that horrible Order which first raised its ugly head on Utapau.
Wouldn't you love to know exactly who Syfo-Dias (I know I didn't spell that correctly...it's late!) was? I would. Wouldn't it make sense that someone would like to know who ordered the clone army, the stormtroopers, the front men for the Empire? Wouldn't SOMEONE in the budding rebellion look into that?
But here's what I would really like for someone to go back in time to find out. Bail Organa would be completely justified in finding a cleft in time to discover the real origins of his daughter's biological father. If he's too "major" a character or Jimmy Smits isn't available, then send a messenger of the Organa's or some other Alderaanian who would rise to the challenge. I can picture it now...Darth Plagueis...the Force all around him...or was Darth Sidious involved? How did Shmi come into the picture???
I WANNA KNOW!!!!
And thanks to Diana Gabaldon and my newfound interest in the eventual Star Wars TV series, maybe I'll have the opportunity to find out!!
