S is for Star Wars
....and its Force-driven ways,
And for Serenity
....on June's 23rd day,
But one week from now, look up in the sky,
Another you'll see,
.....as Superman flies.
(by Kenobi-fan)
From www.superherohype.com:
The score album (for Superman Returns) also includes liner notes penned by Ottman, who writes about his admiration for the 1978 original (Superman: The Movie) and its Williams score. "When Bryan (Singer) called informing me we were going to be making this film, I could actually feel my neck and shoulders tightening up. I mean, this is the Man of Steel. This is THE superhero. Why are we fooling with this!? Soon thereafter I swear I could see an apparition of John Williams, like Obi Wan Kenobi, waving his fingers, mouthing, 'Don't screw this up." It wasn't as much the weight of also editing the picture, but foremost, the musical behemoth and responsibility ahead."
Star Wars & Superman mentioned in the same paragraph...YEAH!

The entire soundtrack is available via the link I provided to www.superherohype.com. The songs are not differentiated, but every song from the soundtrack is there and in order. Needless to say, I felt overly-inspired to issue my silly poem and the content of the paragraph I read. I just couldn't resist!

Um.... try to fill JW's shoes after a well-known score for some of the most important super-hero movies ever? Yeah, no thanks!!

Yeah, no thanks!!
Ouch!
the shot in the trailer with Kal-El (methinks?) deflecting those bullets with his chest, it's just damn cool.
Agreed, but it's the shots of him flying through shards of a disintegrating airplane that've got me psyched.
I can see how this made your day.
Ha!
...browncoat kisser!!
Ouch, again!

I personally love the close-up shot of a bullet shattering as it hits Supe's eyeball. That did it for me!

Way cool! As a kid (and as an adult), I wondered what Supes reaction would be to being hit in the eye with a bullet....now I know.

Good find K-fan. I honestly haven't been this excited about a non-SW release in years.

I wasn't even that excited about this one until I saw the first real trailer (not the teaser). I didn't like who they picked for Superman or Lois or the overall design. After seeing the trailer and HEARING THE MUSIC again, I changed my mind. It just looks and sounds great! I'm a sap for big summer movies and this is a huge one for me. I hope to be highly entertained.

I'm with you. I've always loved Superman (the hero, not all the movies per se). I was very nervous when this project was being kicked around years ago. There was a part of me that thought this would be the chance to do it right also (like Batman). When I heard Singer was going to be the director I was relieived. When I heard his writing buddies re-did the script, I was estatic. When I heard the music, well I tried to fly around the world to speed it up to the point the movie was out.

LOL You're like a kid before Christmas, K-fan, hehe -- and that's totally great. I'm lookin forward to and excited for the movie, but I think I pale in comparison to you as a Supes fan.

The unfortunate part is I'm probably going to be very busy at work next week, which may mean I miss the premiere....bummer.

I'm kinda on the fence about this new Superman movie. I'll be relying on my buddies here to tell me thumbs up or down before I check it out, methinks.
Is it just me or does the actor seem really young to be Superman? I know Chris Reeve was in his 20's when he was the Man of Steel, but he seemed more mature than this guy.
I've always been more of a Spidey fan myself, truth be told.

I don't disagree - Brandon does look a bit young for Superman. It's one of the things that worried me about this movie. But the more I see, the more I hear, the more sure I am that if there is a 'spirit of Superman', it inhabits Brandon. As I stated in my blog 'The Fan of Steel', I think the nature of the character is larger than the actor playing him. If the movie is true to the character - Superman Returns is going to shine regardless of the age of the actor (or the audience)....thus speaks Kenobi-fan. Ha!

Over the past couple of days, I've seen a few trailers. It's looking pretty good. Superman is kind of like Rocky.
The original Superman fought our enemies (Rive sent me a picutre of xenophobic Superman) and Rocky helped us win the Cold War by fighting Drago.
Both guys also do the right thing in the end, even if they ocassionally get involved in Richard Pryor or Paulie and stray from the path.
Then, just when you're about to count them out, they actually out-smart their opponents by letting the other guys think they're stronger -- Rocky takes a beating and Supes gets in the crystal chamber. Brilliant!

Okay, you've sold me! Well, you & a movie reviewer (Steve Greydanus from Decentfilms.com) I heard this morning on the radio. I am now officially looking forward to Superman Returns!
I also saw a new trailer last night that was much more exciting than the one I saw in the theater last week. Good trailers do help and the first one was kind of dull.
