Blog Challenge #3: Image #1
"I saw a city in the clouds..."
Luke Skywalker, Ep. V

The Wampa
Cloud City
Ewok Glider

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Believe it or not, I've finally decided to complete an entry for my 3rd Blog Challenge.

I was going to comment at length on this entry but I think I'll simply respond to any posted questions or comments. Frankly, it's been another busy week and I just don't have the energy at the moment.

I will say that the original image is actually on a 10x15 piece of sketch paper and rendered in pencil, HB and 7B mostly. And I don't think the image presented here does it justice. I just don't have the assets to reduce the image down and retain the tones a pencil can produce. I'm not saying the drawing is any good, just that the contrast is so much harsher because of this.

As I stated in my 'challenge', I did not know what I would produce when it came to rendering what I ended up choosing. For this one, I felt inspired to write a brief story to go along with the image I drew.

Anyway, enough talk...here you go:

Story: Ewok in the Clouds

Image: Ewok in the Clouds, Pg. 66

As with my last challenge, should 'the chosen ones' desire the original, just send me an email with your name and address and it's yours - no questions asked (ha!).

It must be too early because I keep laughing about the "terrible tibanna titan" which sounds like a Wampa with a gas problem.

Well done!!!

Wicket threw what rocks he had with him

In the words of Forrest Gump- "Sometimes I guess there's just not enough rocks."

In the word of K-fan- "Ha!"

Seriously, I loved both the drawing and the backstory. You made us wait, but exceeded expectations.

Ooh ooh! Pick me next! No, me, me!

I'm still laughing about that myself...thanks!

I can't either (sigh)...Okay, now I'll comment: You have no idea how this image changed - from the design of the Wampa, to the glider, to the arrangement on the page, to it's overall style. I was just on (and ignoring) a conference call and I was doodling changes and additions I would still like to make. However, I just don't have the time. Time seems to be the biggest factor of them all (when isn't it?). Thank you.

I wanted to pick me, but I can't seem to find me's suggestions. Maybe next time. ;)

"Sometimes I guess there's just not enough rocks."
I can hear Wicket now: Leia and I was like sticks and stones...ha!

You are just way too brilliant!
And you are way too nice...thanks!

...and a great entry for this blog challenge!
I really wanted this to be interesting. Not only was time a factor in this, so was 'ego', as in: who am I kidding with this stuff? Anyway, I had fun doing it and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Cool!

Do not tell me there is already a Wampa vs. Ewok story out there...I'll be so mad. ;)

Its things like this that will keep me here on these blogs.

Typical, just when I want a big-arse break from Star Wars, along comes Ken y Fan.

Ken y Fan rocks. Who knew?

(pronounced Kennyfan, in case you were wondering, it's a kind of tribute)

I'm really impressed by the artwork. When I saw it, I actually said "Wow" out loud. I really like the way you presented it as what seems to be a page out of a comic--very, very good idea. And honestly, it comes across as very professional.

I also like your attempt to justify the whole thing with a backstory. It's a nice story, but sadly, I don't think "The Wampa -- Cloud City -- Ewok Glider" will ever come across as plausible. ;)

Only now, at the end (or the beginning), do you understand...ha!...thanks, Rogueish!

Do you think if we write GL, he'd include this at the end of ROTJ - The Extra-Super-Special Edition w/ Ewoks n' Stuff? Just wonderin'. :D

When I read there was a story to accompany the artwork, I stepped away from the computer, walked into the kitchen and got a cup of coffee. Mmmm, time to sit back and relax and enjoy one of K-fan's creations. (The coffee may not have been the wisest choice considering it's 4:30 p.m. my time and I really don't want to be up 'til the wee hours of the morning. Too much to do tomorrow! :O)

I was not disappointed, and I think you did an excellent job with Stooge's entry. :) (My how Wicket manages to get in all kinds of pickles! :O)

So ... you didn't pick mine (admittedly, I can't remember my suggestion :8}), but this was so much fun! :D

I'm going to take you at your word, JMW. I often find my concepts outstrip my abilities, meaning, I like the idea, I just don't know if I can accurately or skillfully portray it. (I'm having that problem again with Image #2, actually.) Anyway, the picture came first and the story second. I knew what I wanted to draw, but I needed something 'logical' to make sense of it: a little bit of King Kong mixed with humor instead of sadness (no Ewoks or Cloud City citizens were actually injured during the Wampa's rampage BTW). Anyway, I'm glad you liked...thank you. :)

Wait, hold the phone (or your horses - whatever works)! You can draw?!
I'm sure I already knew that - but I don't come around here often enough anymore... I need to correct that.

Interesting reverse King Kong situation :)
If only Wicket was a bit prettier he could have slain the beast ;)

Rieekan! Rieekan! Rieekan! (I had to look up the correct spelling, but I still get +3 nerd points for knowing that Reikeen looked wrong)

But it's hard, I don't have anything interesting to say (I mean - my intelligence is 1, apparently) :D

Well, I suppose that depends on what you consider 'drawing'...:)

Wow, those are totally awesome, K-fan!! I can totally see Wicket zooming around up there in the clouds! *giggles to self*

but I still get +3 nerd points
:^O! I'd get bunches of those when I would play Star Wars Trivial Pursuit with my non-Star Wars-loving friends: not only would I answer 99.9% the questions right, but I'd spout off other details related to the answers (details they could usually care less about...)! :8} :D

My wife and I played SWTP recenetly and we did the exact same thing - its practically a requirement, since the game can seem way to easy otherwise. Thanks!

I love it! Thanks so much -- the artwork is really stunning, and the story is a riot. Cloud City needed a boogeyman, anyway.

Can't wait to get it framed -- and then eBay, here I come! :D

Love the story, love the artwork.

I actually saw this entry a long time ago in a country far, far away...;) I was too busy having the time of my life to comment on everything back then, but I just wanted to let you know that I re-read the story to refresh and enjoyed it just as much the 2nd time! Bravo!

I found myself compelled to take a look at this once again, and it's still just as impressive as when I saw it for the first time over a year ago. I'm sure I've noticed it before, but for whatever reason, the damage to Cloud City's southern pole (done by the Wampa's climbing) really jumped out at me this time. It's a really nice touch.

Hope you're well, K-Fan.
