Anakin Skywalker lived with his mother on a planet called Tatooine. He had been a slave all his life. He did not expect anything different, but he had dreams. Dreams of visiting every planet in the galaxy. Dreams of becoming a Jedi and freeing the slaves. He finally had a chance to fulfill those dreams when he met a mysterious man named Qui-Gon Jinn who, he later found out, was a Jedi. Anakin is about to leave when he turns around to his mother. "I can't do it, mom." He can't do it. He can't leave the life he has known for so long. He doesn't want CHANGE.
You can't stop the change anymore than you can stop the suns from setting.-Shmi Skywalker to Anakin
Anakin chooses to leave his home and his mother to become a Jedi. Yet that is only on the notion that his mother will be there and he will come back to get his mother. Anakin could, essentially, go down either path. The path of a Jedi and the path of a slave. Even though he did not want to be a slave, if he was a slave nothing would have to change. Becomming a Jedi had more than one positive. He, not only would fulfill his dream, but (IMO) he would not have to change anything. (Once again, my opinion) You can live in a dream. It is your overall desire and you want nothing more than to live it. So you live it. It consumes you untill your dream becomes a reality...in your mind. In your mind, it IS real. So, in a way, he already lived his dream. In his mind, he was already a Jedi freeing the slaves. So, in a way, there isn't much of a change.
Anakin grows up into a powerful, headstrong, and handsome (

) Jedi. He absorbed Obi-Wan's training and became a skilled warrior. After ten years, he was finally reunited with Padme Amidala. He had always cared for her, but as he got older and once he was reunited with her, caring became love. An overwhelming love. He dreamed of her ever since they parted. He expressed his love for Padme, but it was not immediately returned. He coped with it as best as possible. He did not have to cope for long because, just like Anakin, Padme had an overwhelming love for him. They were secretly married and were allowed to dwell in it untill something disrupted it.
Anakin always feared something would happen to his beloved Padme. And know there was. He tried as hard as could to save Padme, but we all know he failed. Yet what possesed him to go on his power spree to save Padme?
There have been many entries saying he was afraid of loss. I don't disagree with those thought, but I wanted to add something. I think he was afraid of CHANGE. Yes, the loss of a loved one is a MAJOR change, but I think it was not just the loss of Padme that made him upset. It was the change. The change of his home. The change of his routine. Most importantly, the change of his heart. Not only was his heart empty, but it was now overwhelmed with hatred. MAybe he was afraid that that would happen; that he would turn to the Dark Side. Maybe he didn't want that, he didn't want the CHANGE. Perhaps he knew this would happen and he feared the CHANGE.
Those are my thoughts, what are yours? And if anyone wrote about this before, I apologize.
