So Love Has Blinded You?
Anakin: You are so beautiful.

Padme: It's only because I'm so in love.

Anakin: No. It's because I'm so in love with you.

Padme: So love has blinded you?

Anakin: That's not exactly what I meant.

Padme: But it's probably true.

I admit that I like the love scenes between Anakin and Padme. Yes, even the "cheesy" ones from AOTC. However, this segment just kills me. It's the line: "So love has blinded you" that really kills me. Agh, I hate it. I always thought "Why would GL put that in? Why would he have Padme say that?" That line just bugs me like a splinter in my finger. I just hate little things that just disrupt the romantic mood like that. Well, I just realized something. I think I know why GL added it. *removes splinter*

It was a way of foreshadowing Anakin's motives for his actions. Padme was right; it was true. Love had blinded him. Anakin had never been a follower of the way's of the Jedi. He could never "let go of all he feared to lose". The council knew that love would lead to a fear of loss and that could lead to terrible things. Poor Padme predicted what would happen.

Anakin never forgot Padme even after they parted. When they met again Anakin fell deeply in love with her. He would go to great lenghts to protect her from any assasination attempt and to track down the one behind the attempts. The time on Naboo only nurtured his growing love for Padme. When the thought of her morality, Padme confessed her love to Anakin on Geonosis. AS they flew away after the battle, Padme fell from the ship. Anakin was motivated to do what was nescesary to help his love. If it weren't for the help of his mentor, Anakin would have been motivated to save Padme even thought it meant giving up the chase on Count Dooku. He would have been blinded by love if it weren't for his mentor's help in returning his vision.

Anakin and Padme get married when he "escorts" her back to Naboo after the battle with Count Dooku. Soon he falls into a world of love and passion. *cough* VA2 *cough* He cares for his training, yes, but Padme was above anything and everything else. After he returns from a long peroid away from his wife, he learns she is pregnant. He is going to be a father. He and his wife, the woman he cares for with all his heart, are going to be parents. He is overwhelmed with happiness and, most importantly, love. This feeling of happiness turns into worry when he has dreams of his wife dying in childbirth. He assumes they are going to become reality as they did with his mother. He desperately wants to stop this from happening. It CAN'T happen. He cannot lose his one and only love along with their child. Palpatine then comes in with a solution to this problem. He feeds Anakin with the thought of being able to save people from death, most importantly, his wife. When Palpatine makes an offer, Anakin does not immediately accpt. However, when he realizes this offer soon might be gone, he is blinded by love and accepts. He is blinded by love again, only this time it is more overwhelming and this time his mentor is not there to restore his vision. So, blinded by love, Anakin does what he thought was nescesary. He follows the path he has created to the Dark Side. He does not realize the impact of his wrongdoings because his vision was impaired. He was blinded by love. Every step he took his vision worsened untill he finally lost all sight. He could no longer see the severity and the evil of his actions. He WAS blind and it was because of LOVE.

Please post your thouhgts. P.S.: If anyone has said this before I apologize. It took me over a year to put enough thought into it to realize this, so if anyone said this I'm sorry.
