A Blog of Love

Some of you may have seen on the news that NE Ohio got hit with a massive snow storm today, and as a result most of the city I live in has gotten a big, old day off. Now it could be that a distinct lack of productivity has turned my brain to bantha poodoo, or it could be that as I am trying to stay warm I'm looking to the barest sparks to turn into fire, or it could be that I'm just under the sway of Valentine's day you, dear reader, will have to decide. But it seems that all of these things have conspired to make my brain acutely aware of a little phantom romance in The Phantom Menace....

I remember thinking this the first time I saw TPM back when it was first released in theaters....Could it be that there's a little spark between Qui-Gon and Shmi????? Now before you just write me off as being full of the aforementioned poodoo. Let's just consider the evidence:

Exhibit A: The way Mr. Jinn says "Good morning," before helping the lovely lady off of her....whatever it is she's riding before the pod race.

Exhibit B: The way Mr. Jinn then takes his hands and puts them gently on her waist to help her down from....whatever it is she's riding before the pod race.

Exhibit C: The way Mr. Jinn compassionately and yet oh so delicately places a loving hand on Shmi's shoulder and asks "Will you be all right?" after her son has been freed.

I think that when Jinny-boy learned that Shmi was the mother of the Chosen One it got his little Jedi heart into a Force-filled fluster. He saw her as no one else did, he saw her as the powerful being she was because only someone deeply and uniquely connected to the Force could have been the mother of the Chosen One. Now, where is all the fan-fic about this forbidden romance? I ask you. Did Qui-Gon Jinn have a plan to come back for his love that was cut short by an encounter with a dentally challenged Zabrak? I don't know. But I think he not only saw something special in Anakin, he saw something special in Shmi, too.

Lord help me I'm only half joking! Ha!
