ESB with my mother.
Hi everyone! Today I got my mother to watch ESB with me! It is amazing because just yesterday we watched ANH. Speaking of yesterday, I forgot that she said this yesterday- "I hope the sister and brother don't fall in love than realize they are related, that would be sad." I found that pretty amusing haha.

Please keep in mind that she has not seen ESB before, but has seen the PT previously, I am showing her the films in order.
This time I took notes on her reactions to the film. I also jotted down questions she asked me. I took notes this time because yesterday I was struggling to remember them due to my poor short-term memory.

I took my time to explain to her how it probably took Han, Chewie, Leia and 3po months to reach Cloud City; and how Lukes training was a lot more than shown. I briefly explained hyperspace and lightspeed.

I also went into how it was seeing the OT before the PT. How it was not knowing Vader was Luke's father and not knowing about the twins. I am "raising" her with the new generation, I speak of them and my views on how the Saga can be interpreted in this blog.

Now I will quote my mother's reactions and supply my feedback on them.
Here are her reactions to the film, broken down into categories:

Emotional:
-She said "oh/aw" in a sad tone when Luke and Han's Tauntauns was killed,

-Also when C-3po was blasted by the (unknown at the time) stormtroopers.

-"Aw poor guy has a headache." She said this when Chewie was locked up on Cloud city and going through torture.

These emotional responses show to me she really cares about what happens and is not just watching for my benefit. My dad was saying tonight that's why she was watching....I will get to this later.

EW: She was grossed out by:
- Luke and Leia kissing
- The snakes of Dagobah,
- Han's use of Luke's lightsaber on his Tauntaun.

Questions: Her questions to me, which usually prompted me pausing the film.
- "Aw did he eat his camel?"(meaning the Wampa Ice Creature eating Luke's Tauntaun)
This intrigued me because I never looked at it that way before, I always just assumed the Wampa left the Tauntaun on the surface and dragged only Luke down below. Well in the OT (real originals) we never saw that Wampa eating meat. It was always suspenseful until he approached Luke in the cave. Anyone have a good view on this?

-"How did he (Vader) get there (Dagobah, in the cave)?" She said this the second he came into view. I let her settle with her own explanation of "He is dreaming." After the scene, I paused it and explained it to her, surprisingly; she understood most of it before I said it to her.

-"I don't understand why he (Chewie) can't talk." I than responded with how it adds a diverse character and it is more interesting.

- {On board the Executer} "Did they switch his helmet? Why take it off; I thought he can't breathe without it?" This prompted the meditation room discussion, and the details of Vader's suit.

Responses: There is Humor here as well as a good point.

-After Han said "I know" in response to Leia's "I love you," my mother said "No, no, no, it's supposed to be "I love you too!"
This obviously amuses any SW fan of our caliber because we know that was what was originally what Lucas' had in the screenplay and how he liked it. I explained this to her after her little comment.

-"The guy (Wampa Ice Creature) that attacked him (Luke) looked like the abominable snowman from Santa Claus." (The classic Christmas show on every year)

-Princess Leia: Captain, being held by you isn't quite enough to get me excited.
Han Solo: Sorry sweetheart. I haven't got time for anything else.
After that scene, my mother muttered under her breath "Men!" Shame for her I have great hearing and caught her, even with the surround sound booming around me. That gave me a good chuckle.

- She jumped out of her seat and screamed when the Mynocks flew into Leia. Hahaha I had to laugh there.

Overall I can tell she enjoyed this film a lot more than ANH. For starters, she understands better and knows the characters better now. I can't blame her, I like ESB better too. She also said how she liked how it was more modern than ANH. She said how the similarities to the Indiana Jones trilogy were great....Gee I wonder why Ma! She did not know haha.

She said how odd it is seeing the films go from 21st century way to late 70's early 80's; different but not bad she honestly assured me. This is a great experience for me. How it will be for now on. How the new generation will experience Star Wars and pass it on to their children.

My mother has seen just how happy Star Wars makes me today. I am really glad she let me share the magic with her....It means so much to me. Love you so much Mom; Thank You.
