Many of you would be aware that Anakin Solo died for a reason. I'm not talking about voxyn, or the future survival of the Jedi Order. No. I'm talking about George Lucas and his need for protecting us, the fans, from, wait for it... confusion.

Jacen Solo was slated to die in the NJO series, but no, George Lucas in all his wisdom figured that would be too confusing for us Star Wars fans. You see, having two Anakins in the saga is apparently too much for our little brains to cope with. So Anakin Solo - easily the most powerful and promising Jedi of his generation - dies, while we are stuck with, sigh, Jacen. But at least the saga is less confusing now. Phew.

So then Mister Lucas, in your attempts to protect us from the big scary world of Confuse, how do you suggest we wrap our pathetic minds around characters such as Breha Organa (nee Antilles), Bail Organa, Bail Antilles, Wedge Antilles, Raymus Antilles, Colton Antilles, and Captain Colton, when in fact we can't even tell the difference between Anakin Skywalker and Anakin Solo?

Considering that we are mere monkeys in George's eye, let's grab ourselves a banana or three, sit on a tree, and go through these slowly.

A New Hope. C3PO: "Our last master was Captain Antilles". Back in the Original Trilogy days, we could safely say that he wasn't talking about Wedge. Wedge Antilles, I might add, has nothing to do with this mess. He is from Corellia, while the rest of the Antilles Bunch here are from Alderaan.

Jumping to Phantom Menace now. On our first viewing, we are hoping to possibly catch a glimpse, or even a mention, of famous Bail Organa. Sadly, this does not happen. We get a mention of Bail Antilles though. Who the hell is that? Why does he share Wedge's surname and Organa's given name? A bit of a mystery. But, he turns out to be a nobody (at that time) so everyone's happy.

Attack of the Clones rolls by, and we finally get to see Bail Organa. "Yipee!", as our little sprog-boy from EPI would say. All is good.

Revenge of the Sith comes along. Hooboy, here's where the fun begins. On first viewing, everything seems normal. Towards the conclusion of the film, Bail Organa hands over the heroic droids to "Captain Antilles". So that wraps up the saga! There's Captain Antilles, the droids "old master", and presumably the dude who gets choked to death by Darth Vader in A New Hope.

Right?

Wrongo.

The Captain Antilles we see in Revenge of the Sith is Raymus Antilles. However, this is not the Captain Antilles (Vader McThroatyCrunched) we know from A New Hope. No, that would be Colton Antilles, the droids' last master. See, Raymus Antilles is Colton Antilles' father (the fahja).

With that out of the way, we can now introduce Captain Colton. You know, the Captain Colton who is NOT Captain Colton Antilles? Sure you do. Captain Colton is one of the pilots of the Tantive IV. He is seen in the cockpit in Revenge of the Sith and is portrayed by none other than Jeremy Bulloch. Raymus Antilles named his son for Captain Colton.

So hopefully we're all sorted now. Just a couple of loose ends left to tie up.

In Revenge of the Sith, Bail Organa is seen with his wife - Breha Organa. Guess what her maiden name was? Antilles! That's right, Breha was somehow related to the Bail Antilles we heard of back in The Phantom Menace.

So I think that about wraps it up. There's a good chance I might have overlooked another three or so Antilles family members along the way, but seriously, who the hell cares

Back to the Solos, I still can't see what difference it would have made if Anakin Solo had survived instead of Jacen. If anything, it would have made the NJO series better. If we can have almost a dozen characters sharing the names Antilles, Bail and Colton, then surely we can live with two Anakins?

Don't get me wrongo, I have an enormous amount of respect for Mr Lucas, however sometimes his decisions leave me baffled.
