The GBF Galaxy Cup is arguably the most prestigious competition in interplanetary sports. The Galaxy Cup is contested by member planets of the Grav-ball Federation (GBF) - planetary teams of human/humanoid/bipedal players. The championship has been awarded every four standard years since the first tournament in 400 BBY on Nubia, though the competition did not gain total galaxy-wide participation and popularity until 92 BBY.

The modern tournament begins with 1000 teams competing for 3 years to make the "Great 88". In the final year of competition, the 88 teams are reduced to the Final 32.

The "Finals" phase of the tournament involves the Final 32 teams competing over a four-week period on a previously nominated host planet, eventuating in the Galaxy Cup Final. The Finals are most widely-viewed sporting event in the galaxy.

The GBF Galaxy Cup Finals 28 BBY will begin on Gyndine this month.
