What Will Jacen Pick? We Decide Through Him
It's finally here, a very important vote all of us who know this character get to choose for him, but he'll actually choose for himself. As you may know from my previous blogs, I was very disappointed when this came about. I viewed Jacen's Sith name to be chosen by the authors who will record this journey of Jacen's but apparently they couldn't come to agreement when looking at this character. So fans got to submit names and then would vote on the top five.

When the contest was announced and people started voting, I did put some thought into this contest, wanting to look at Jacen's personality and then see what name would come to him. Now, I had a fear that people would just submit names without thinking about it. However, with all the blogs and message board areas I went to, everyone was giving this a lot of thought, and I feel foolish for thinking what I did.

But now the names have been released. On pure instinct, I looked through them and then voted for the one that I liked best. One did stand out to me, and my gut said vote for it, regardless of what meaning it may have. But I saw something unexpected when I went to vote and here it is:

Remember that Jacen is a Sith Lord who chooses his own name, like Darth Bane did (as opposed to Darth Vader, for example, who was named by his Sith Master). So when voting, you might want to keep in mind Jacen's personality/thoughts/motivations and how those might affect his choice of Sith names.

I'm glad to see this, even if I think the authors, editors, and anyone else in the process should have done this to come up with a name, however, that has now passed. Seeing this also made me decide to see what these names meant, even if it isn't what the author of the name based it off.

The first one, Acheron, comes from a Greek name of something/one dealing with the Underworld, which is usually portrayed as dark. That name makes sense, but it comes directly from another's name, so I didn't go with it, sorry :( Keep in mind, I mean no offense to the people who submitted these names, because their choices made the cut, mine didn't :)

The second one, Caedus, just sounded good to me, so I did vote for it. When I searched the web, I didn't find anything but username profiles, which may mean the person used a screen name they came up with for Jacen. However, Caedus just sounds like it could be evil but still have good inside, like I see Jacen. In short, Caedus just sounds good to me.

The next one, Judicar, didn't sound too "Sithly" to me, but it does make sense for Jacen if it does come from judiciary. Jacen is out for his own justice for his child and the galaxy so I respect the name.

The fourth, Paxis, was also not Sithly enough for me but if it is based off the institute that I found with that name, that's exactly what Jacen is doing. The institute has a similar statement for what Jacen is doing, but maybe in a far better light than Jacen is doing it :) However, like with the first one, it comes from an already existing group or name and not like a word with all the other Sith, including Bane, Malak, etc.

And the last one, Taral, just sounds too Superman for me, and being a non-fan of Superman, I didn't like it as much. And when I searched it, I didn't find anything duracrete, so I'm going with my Superman idea :)

Overall, all these entries were good and as above I went with Caedus off gut instinct. I mean no offense to anyone who submitted the other names, because, like I said, you're a finalist and I wasn't; good job! Also, don't vote based off my reasoning. The best way to go, I think, is read the names and go with a gut feeling, but if you want to research, like we all did when we submitted our ideas, go ahead and vote for the best.

Also, from the above italicized paragraph, Jacen's name should be something he comes to but I believe that the Force may also influence Jacen's decision whether he knows it or not; did Palpatine mean to name Anakin Skywalker Vader, meaning father? Yes, Jacen names himself, but he could even open himself up to the Force and let it choose his name for him, especially since Jacen would do such a thing. I hope the authors and editors considered this, even though they say Jacen will name himself.

Once more, congratulations to those at least five individuals who made it into the finals! Good luck!
