With the announcement of the Unaltered Versions of the Original Trilogy,
STAR WARS fans need to start asking themselves some questions.
When I read the news I was completely overwhelmed with excitement and joy. But then the questions starting arising. Which versions will I watch from now on?
Ofcourse we will all watch them immediately when we get them, to relive the nostalgia. But, once that initial viewing is over, how often will you watch them?
STAR WARS is like potato chips, you can never watch just one. Infact everytime I get the urge to watch
EMPIRE, I think how I will wanna watch
JEDI either immediatly after, or atleast the day after. Then I think, "well if I'm going to watch those two I might as well start with ANH." And so that is what I do.
Now with the Prequal Trilogy complete and on DVD, I'm sure many fans will watch all six in consecutive order spanning out over a few days. And as I see it, if you're going to do that, then when you get the the OT, you should watch the 2004 DVD versions. Just for continuity's sake. The Unaltered Versions won't have the title "EPISODE IV A NEW HOPE" in the opening crawl,
EMPIRE won't have Ian McDiarmid playing the Emperor, and
JEDI won't have Hayden in the last scene, as well as all the other cities in the celebration. So, for me anyway, to view as a complete six-part saga, you need to watch the 2004 DVD versions.
So that being the case we will have to sit through Greedo shooting first, and the completely horrible and so out of place "Jedi Rocks." (Which really to me is the worst part of the SE versions)
So in closing, the true version of the Saga now includes the 2004 DVD versions. That is now the canon. And the Unaltered Versions will be there to remind us all of the magic we experienced as a kid.
