There is a moment in A New Hope, that I think many fans have missed. I recently saw it in another blog as a "plot hole."
Now this is merely my interpretation of this scene but I think my theory holds up.
The thing some people can not get beyond is the fact that C3PO, refers to Leia as the Princess, and then to Luke refers to her as "someone of some importance I believe." As if to infer he's not quite sure who she is.
The fact is he knows exactly who Leia is. And by this I mean he knows who she is at that point in time. He knows she is Bail's daughter, a Senator, a rebel leader and a Princess. He doesn't know ofcourse of her lineage to Anakin and Padme because those memories have been wiped.
I want all of you, during your next viewing of A New Hope, to look at the garage scene like this. C3PO is talking to Luke and mentions "with what we've been through, what with the rebellion and all I'm suprised to be in as good condition as we are." LUKE: "you know of the rebellion against the Empire." 3PO :"thats how we came to be in your service, if you catch my meaning sir." THEN R2 interupts beeping and what not, telling 3PO to "shut uuuuppp" at which point 3PO now knows nothing.
Luke "have you been in many battles?" 3PO " several, I think. Theres not much to tell, I'm merely an interpreter...." So it is R2 who tells 3PO to shut up, that is why it appears 3PO does not know anything. But he really does.
I hope some of you who never thought of this, goes back and watches it and lets me know what you think.
