As my coworkers are probably sharing a collective sigh of relief that my damn movie is finally practically here and they won't have to work with me geeking out anymore (or so they think!! they don't realize these things have an aftermath!!) , I am kind of amazed that we are finally here.
It makes me a little sad, that it is here. I spent two years with my beautiful internet friends doing the job that is 'WAITING.' And when there is no more waiting, I don't know what we'll all do. My group is so important, as was the waiting.
We're finally going to get to see those sets that we watched being built, inhabited by people and from the dead-on point of view, rather than the bird's eye we were accustomed to. Obi-Wan and Anakin's million fight scenes we saw practiced for, then shot, will be right in front of us in all their glory to enjoy. On all of their locales. Hell, we can watch any scene with Obi-Wan in it and say, "Hey! That guy flipped us off on the webcam!! At least twice!!"
I'm almost afraid for the movie to finally come. I'm afraid for it to be over, and to say, what now? Of course, 'what now' is like when Return of the Jedi was first over and we didn't know there was a future. You pick up and move on and grab your damn EU. But can there really be an EU between 'Sith' and 'A New Hope'? What would it be about? Presumably Obi-Wan and Yoda are already hidden in their holes, the rest of the jedi are dead, and Darth Vader is just off being awful with nobody to stop him for those years in between. Is there a story to be found? Perhaps the story of the beginning of the rebellion, but can you make that book-worthy? I suppose a good writer can make anything book-worthy.
Of course, I still have a whole bunch of EU books to read. I have to finish the New Jedi Order, although I have a feeling that finishing that will be sad. It has Corran Horn in it at least, and I love Corran. Until I saw that god-awful photo in the starwars.com database, I always thought Corran was hot. The drawn avatar is MUCH closer to the way I picture Corran. That is my Corran, not the creepy ole guy in the photos (is it true that that's Michael Stackpole?). Anyway.
Is there life after Star Wars? Perhaps in Batman, but it just isn't the same. At least there is in the video games - I still have to finish KOTOR and start KOTOR 2. I wish 'The Hobbit' was underway, or there was SOMETHING looming out there to wait for. Star Trek is dead. I still haven't watched the Enterprise finale, so finishing that series could take some time up. But it just doesn't have that thrill that is 'Oh my god, Star Wars.' Lord of the Rings certainly did. But now, I yearn for something to look to, and the horizon seems shockingly vacant. That makes me really sad.
Thank god this movie will rock.
Now the only question that remains is... is there life after May 19?
