Thoughts on Episode III
(This is copied from my Xanga blog, which you may find here: http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=bel_mulderleia)

Oh man.

I LOVE STAR WARS.

Not that any of you had any doubt of that before.

God. So happy I saw it. So happy I went at midnight. So happy saw it again within twenty four hours.

Movie was so great. So much better than the other prequels. Oh man.

Impressions:

******** HERE THERE BE SPOILERS!! ************************

First, my only complaint with the movie, since I have to get it out:

ANAKIN AND PADME HAVE NO CHEMISTRY EVER OMG. Their basic 'You're prettier,' 'No YOU'RE prettier,' 'No I'm in love with you,' 'No I'm in love with YOU!' thing made me want to throw up because I so wasn't buying it. It's weird, because Hayden and Ewan have good chemistry, and Natalie and Ewan have good chemistry, but Hayden and Natalie have.... absolutely nothing.

There are those that would argue that this movie is better than Empire Strikes Back. I don't think that is true, or could be true, specifically because of this. I mean, you watch Empire, and Han and Leia together are awesome. They are sexy and funny and the tension between them feels real. You believe they love each other even before Leia admits it. The chemistry is there and when it comes together and is released, you feel great. When Anakin and Padme get together, it just feels awkward. Their 'romantic moments' consist of a horrible awkward coming together that is more or less play-arguments along the lines of 'You're prettier!' 'No YOU'RE prettier,' 'No YOU,' until you want to gag. 'I love you.' 'No I love YOU.' 'I promise you.' 'No I promise you.'

Kiss. My. Butt.

How painful was the 'Oh HOLD me, like when there was no war or politics and there was ONLY OUR LOVE, hold me, blah blah blah' moment? Can you say instant diabetic? Man. I hated that.

I did, however, love pretty much everything else.

I feel incapable of talking about RotS to the full extent that I want to. I feel like I leave things out. I've seen it twice now and I'm still a little overwhelmed. The entire movie to me culminated in Obi-Wan's last 'lesson' to his padawan..... 'You were the chosen one! You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not become one of them! You were supposed to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness!' Man. That was such an awesome moment. Obi-Wan is so the man.

The movie moves very fast, which can be unsettling at times, but also serves to really blow your mind the first time around. It is all intriguing, but it is that last hour that really makes the movie. Once Mace dies... you know the "Sith" is hitting the fan and for the rest of the movie it's just like.... whoa. :| This is it and man you can't get away from that.

I liked R2 being the hero in the beginning, especially with the creeping around as the [communicator thing I forget the SW word for] was going off, and the setting the other droids on fire. It was funny and lighthearted and made for a good intro considering that the rest of the movie was going to be so dark, especially at the end - it made for good contrast. R2 got some good action, and it was nice.

The General Grievous thing was interesting. The hacking and coughing was confusing until you realized there was flesh underneath, which is something I'd never realized from the clone wars cartoons. I don't know what I think of the way the fight ended, but I loved the animal Obi-Wan rode on. I want a toy of it. Does anyone know what that animal is called?

It was great that Obi basically turned Ani into Stumpy the Dark Lord. He sooooo deserved it. :p That a**hole.

********** END OF SPOILERS ************************

When we went to the movie theater Wednesday night, somebody pulled a fire alarm, and we had to evacuate.. only to go right back in. :p When the alarms went off again, we basically said, forget it, we're not going anywhere, it's time for Star Wars.

Tired now.

More thoughts later.
