So does anyone remember those mysterious messages left in front of the webcam way back in the days of shooting? Some were written out, and some were typed out and printed on a paper taped to the wall and placed there for all of us to ponder. When cleaning my room today I found a notebook where they'd been written down, and I was wondering if now, looking at them, they meant anything relevant to the movie or if they were simply some crew member's joke... or secret note to a friend. Maybe all they meant were 'please don't put my good clothes in the dryer, and can we have mac and cheese tonight?' Regardless, they were intriguing, especially the ones that did seem significant.
The first was 'LYMIRN.' Many rearranged these letters to get the word 'MYRLIN' from them. Theorizing quickly traveled to the realm of Arthurian lore, perhaps to Obi-Wan's existence as the Merlin character, but also perhaps to some other aspect of the realm of Camelot and the like, as we are all aware of how George loves recalling the old archetypes. Was it a clue to some part of the movie text we were as of yet unaware of, or perhaps something hinted at that never made the final cut? Why was it there in its place as one of those webcam crop circles?
Poking around the net points to a few different ideas of what it was referring to.. one site shares with us that in some legends Myrlin is said to have a twin sister - gee, do you know anybody like that? Is the general Obi-Wan reference here kind of a red herring, and are we in fact referring to good old Luke?
Further digging makes the point look more like it refers to Anakin, as it is told that some stories share the idea that Myrlin's father was not an earthly creature, but rather an angel 'who [visited] the Royal nun and left her with child.' However, the same source goes on to say that it was assumed to be a story to spare the child's mother from the scandal of some affair of hers being revealed. I don't see Shmi as a 'let's get it on' kind of girl, and I doubt anyone really cares just how a slave woman on Tattooine becomes knocked up, giving birth to another slave.
We can still point in the direction of Anakin when we find that theoretically the downfall (and perhaps death of) Myrlin was brought about by the woman he was in love with. Like it or not, dear Padme's hanging around ended up having a lot to do with Anakin's doom. Would he have gone bonkers without her? Probably. But will they ever know for certain? Nope.
Given all of this, however, we can still look to Obi-Wan for meaning in the possible reference. Myrlin is best known for mentoring Arthur to greatness, and our tragic Jedi Master did indeed mentor not one, but two crucial jedi to their respective greatnesses, be it great evil or great good. Is it Occham's Razor that says that, given all possibilities, the simplest explanation is generally the correct one?
Or was LYMIRN something else entirely? Is there anyone out there who could tell us, who could explain the esoteric mysteries of the webcam? I seem to think that this particular one was shown around the time of them shooting Padme's funeral procession, although I am not certain of that claim. Perhaps that could shade the meaning as well.
Then there was another hint, also left lingering before the cam to tantalize us. This one was a little fuzzy, and either said 'R3N +BAE' or 'R3N + 3AE.' That is one I never had a clue on, and I don't claim to now. I have boggled my little mind thoroughly, and I still have nothing. I never found out if the meaning behind any of these little messages has been revealed, and as they seem to have fallen to the webcam wayside, perhaps I'll never know. But it's still fun to ponder a little. Thoughts?
