Jediism
Hi Guys!!!!!!!

Today I focus on the realism of Star Wars in todays world. As you should all know in 2001 New Zealand Declared a new religion. The Religion of A Jedi. Heres the Introduction of the not yet official Jediism Website:

Jediism is a religion based around the Force. We here believe in the Force as our religion and the Jedi path as our philosophy and way of life. There are others here who mix their current religion with the Jedi path. All are welcome here to discuss any and all issues but our focus here is Jediism. Jediism is not very strict as in you must do certain things and if you don't you are not a member. The word religion for us means one thing; a group of people who have some of the same founding beliefs. People who are a part of Jediism share the same belief of the Force. We do not believe in any other deity or God, though there are individuals that participate here that do. For members of Jediism there is only the Force. We all walk our own path as in none of us all believe the same things on many aspects of the Jedi path and that's what makes us a unique religion. Please look around the site to learn more about us and what we believe.

If you wish to view the website here it is

It suprises me to see that a group of people somehow started this religion. It all began when a group of Religious/Star WarsFanatics in New Zealand started a Petition, where you would declare your support to the new religion if you posted "JEDI" on the petition. I mean i've heard of a Star Wars Fanatic but begining an real official religion relating to Star Wars seems pretty extreme (whats your opinion)
So by all means follow your true path whether its Christian or Islam or even Jedi knight.
In fact this religion seems great it has beliefs, a code, rules and it has a real meaning. A jedi religion would be the answer to world peace. looking more into the relgion it is alot deeper than you and I realize. You dont even have to like star wars to use this religion. All you have to believe is of the reasons of the relgion, The beliefs, the knowledge and of course the force

It suprised me when I saw these figure on the percentage of "disciples" tothis religion

New Zealand
Christian: 58.9%
No religion: 29.6%
Object to answering: 6.9%
Jedi: 1.5%
Buddhism: 1.2%
Hindu: 1.2%

In the Canada some 20,000 people reported their religion as Jedi!!!!

England and Wales
Christian: 72.0%
No religion: 14.8%
Chose not to respond: 7.7%
Muslim: 3.1%
Hindu: 1.1%
Jedi: 0.7%

Read this The UK National Statistics

And all this was only recorded in 2001 imagine how far the religion could of spread. Whats more is this. This amazing map just shows how this religion has spread
"WOW" you say...Precisely

However; do we reckon that people are really taking the new religion seriously. Do you think maybe people who have watched the movies and have loved them just decide to be part of it by joining the Religion. Or maybe when someone decides to buy numerous amount Star Wars Film cells and cherishes them like children they suddenly decide there intentions to join this (dare I say) Parody religion

I wonder how George Lucas responded to this...Well heres how. This is a quote from an "Exploring Faith Magazine"

The Anglican Digest
the first school to teach Jedi was recently opened in Romania. "Courses at the Star Wars Academy include the correct use of light saber swords, and lessons on how to speak Wookiee, the language of violent furry creatures in the films. The academy's founder, Adrian Pavel, said he decided to open the school in response to requests from fans

George Lucas says
"I put the Force into the movie in order to try to awaken a certain kind of spirituality in young people - more a belief in God than a belief in any particular religious system. I wanted to make it so that young people would begin to ask questions about the mystery."

and finally it reads
There is a dark side to religion that Lucas understands, and this last film in the series makes it clear what can happen in a world where the Force is taken seriously.

So what are you're thoughts on this sweeping religion. Do you believe its a joke, is it cool or do think that it just underlines the seriousness of REAL religions.

i'll leave you to decide, Comments are welcome
Oh yeah and obviously the main code of this new religion is obviously

"There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force"

What's wrong with following the ways of the Jedi? If people take Jedism seriously they'll probably become a lot more caring and will strive for better things in life than before.
I wouldn't support it, though, when people claim to be Jedi because they think it's cool and even cooler to be seriously on the dark side of the Force (maybe even taking it as an excuse for doing bad things).

real official religion relating to Star Wars seems pretty stupid

Stating your opinion in this way is well, stupid. It turns off a lot of people and infers, at best, that you aren't willing to listen to them or take them seriously. Maybe you haven't any intention of doing that BB, but it is a turn off.

Words are powerful.

People who want to follow the "religion of the Jedi" are okay with me. It's their perogative. Who am I to judge? The way Yoda described the Force is, basically, the best of every religion. How can you go wrong with that?

Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression peeps. I myself would love to follow this religion but in comparison to Christianity, Hindyu, Islam, Sikh..etc A jedi Religion feels like a bit of a parody.

So by all means follow your true path whether its Christian or Islam or even Jedi knight.
In fact this religion seems great it has beliefs, a code, rules and it has a real meaning. A jedi religion would be the answer to world peace

Granted it sounds silly to attempt to make a real religion out of something made up in a movie....

But what makes the idea any more laughable then any other man-made religion?

If you saw someone walking around today who genuinly believed and worshiped Zeus and the gods of Mt.Olympus or Thor, Odin, Ra or Osiris you might think they were completely rediculous. But millions of people believed in them once the same as millions are christians, hindus, muslims, buhdists ect... today.

Star Wars movies and specially the Jedi ways must be consider in this days, all that makes a person improve in their life is good and must be wellcome.

If Jediism teaches people the ways of : peace, honor, loyalty, humility, helping and tolerance i think we should all adopt it!!!

I love this idea, i have my "normal" religion but this teaching of Jedi are the same only in a different level.

May The Force we with you!

To each their own. As long as they are happy with their choice, then there should be no problem. I am sure the early Christians were laughed at as well. Look at how far Christianity is today!!
As far as governments declaring it an official religion, I can't say yes or no. I think it should be a personal thing. But that's just my opinion.

Their code seems good in theory. Will it work in practice, though. I don't know. To deny emotion is to invite all kinds of problems. I think Anakin (and Luke, too) at some level knew this. Anakin tried to live without emotion, but failed. The Jedi I think had forgotten that certain emotions are ok as long as they don't go to extremes with them. These people will find it harder than they think to live life that way. I for one do not think I could live that way. Emotions are there for a reason. We all would go crazy without them.

On the other hand, though, some emotions, when gotten out of hand, are dangerous. I can see where Yoda for example taught that certain emotions are Dark Side. Anger and fear can go to far (hatred, for example). But one needs to understand how NOT to go too far with them. You can't have love, IMO, without compassion. Or without some form of attachment. But one must remember that whatever you are emotionally attached to you must eventually let go. We can't take things to heaven, after all. And eventually our loved ones must go there, too.
Just my opinion.
