There is no death only the force!!
Hey Guys!!!!

"There is no death there is only the Force"

This was part of an old Jedi saying which I have long forgotten. This quote got me thinking about the deaths of certain people in the SW saga. Many people have different views on what happens to you when you die, many say you go up to heaven, some say that you are reincarnated and are born as a differnt person. there are many views.

During the Star Wars saga we learn of how the Sith for years have attempted to achieve eternal life. The Sith believe that firstly only a *cough* Sith *cough* can achieve this and that you must release yourself to all your fear and hate. IN ROTS darth...errm I mean Chancellor Palpatine talks of his former Master Darth Plaugeis and how he could prevent death by influencing the Midi-Chlorians to create life

"Have you ever heard of the tragedy of Darth Plaugeis, He was a dark lord of the Sith, so powerful and wise he could use the force to influence the Midi-Chlorians to CREATE LIFE! He had such knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying" Chancellor Palpatine in the galaxies Opera house

Of course this was not how to achieve eternal life and ironically the Sith could never learn how to achieve this. A wise jedi Master by the name of Qui-Gon-Jinn in the end discovered how to achieve Eternal life. Actually he learned it from the Shaman of whills. In the Episode 3 graphic novel Qui-gon says

"The ability to defy death can only be achieved by ones self. A Shaman of Whills discovered the secret, but it will never be accomplished by a sith lord. It is a state aquired through compassion not greed" Qui-gon-Jinn to Yoda on Polis Massa

Becoming one with the force is what the jedi calls eternal life. By submission and letting go of ones self one will bind with the force, become the force, merge with it.
Examples of this are when Ben Kenobi Submits to Vader
Yoda peacefully lets go of himself
and when Anakin in ROTJ returns to the light and let go of himself

Qui-Gon-Jinn, Yoda, Obi-Wan-Kenobi and eventually in ROTJ Anakin alias Darth Vader achieved it. Well done Anakin.

The Jedi have a Code. Guidelines you could say. Or in my opinion a catchy saying
"There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force"

Finally I'd like to finish by asking you
1. What do you imagine eternal life to be and look like
2. Generally what are your thoughts

P.S. At the start of this blog i mentioned abou the Jedi saying that includes there is no death only the force. Does anyone remember the first parts of this saying?

Thanks

It's part of the Jedi Code:

There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force.

Hmmm. An interesting take you have on the ability to cheat death, the Sith take, and the ability to "defy" death (?) via the immortality practice. I always viewed them as two seperate things. The Sith practice being to keep the body alive, virtually cheating death so the person can live on in this plane. Seperate is the immortality practice where the consciousness of the Jedi lives on along side the living Jedi (as Ben appears to Luke).

You can look at these as two seperate things completely or as two different "points of view" of the same exact thing... also two different intentions behind them.

My thoughts: I disagree with the Jedi code in that there is "no death only the force." I think there is death, and there is the force, both. I think it's the definition of death that can shift between being a final obliteration, or a transition, but whatever it is it's real.

However, I also think that the fear of death is something that needs to be worked with for any human, and perhaps for the Jedi this saying helped them face death peacefully.

Thanks for the blog!

There is death like you said anakinside 1, and there is the force, but the jedi don't realize that. The sith only wish to stay alive and achive goals in their physical life like stopping the jedi from trying to take control of the senate. They also can become one with the force once dead though.

I agree. With Jedi, some of them became spirits. But I once read in Obi-Wan's databank archive, on the expanded universe side, that 5 years after the battle on Endor, Obi-Wan no longer had the ability to stay a spirit. So sometimes there is death.
