 | Where are the Bloggers? |
 HI Guys !!!!!!!!!
I'm not sure how to put this as I am sure there will be mixed views on this. So here I go
Every week more and more non-fan club members have been...well....swarming our blogs. what I mean is that when i look on comments on most blogs I notice how many non fanclub members there are. Not that Its a bad thing, as the more the merrier.
Having joined Hyperspace I sometimes feel superior to those who are not of the fan club. I can proudly go onto message boards here and the Lucasarts forums and boast that im a member. I feel like us Members are in 500 Republica, taking the high road. its just nice to know that all people with there own avatar and blog have all payed the money to come on and talk to other people who share the same passion for Star Wars.
What are your thoughts

I have no problems with NON paying fans replying on the blogs....there are plenty of younglings (and not so younglings) that simply cant afford the Hyprspace fee but still wish to be a part of the fun, and I'm glad that they are at the very least allowed to read & reply.
Besides, this gives people who may be contemplating a membership a chance to take the site for a "test drive" so to speak.

I agree with DJ Maul, often people are misinformed and don't know the benefits of joining Hyperspace. I think if we set a good example and tell people how cool it is to be a member, they will be encouraged to join. I understand that there are younglings out there who can't afford to pay for a year membership. I can see how if you can't post, you can at least reply. Those of us who are members may feel inclined to blog but not read other blogs. I try to do both, but it depends on how busy my life is.

I understand where your coming from salaciouslq...I try to resond to each blog I read in SOME way, even if its not a long reply, just to let the writer know I read it.
The general principle held here is "do not blog just for comments" and I understand that philosophy, but it is nice to know that there are people out there reading your blogs....be they paying customers or NOT.

Personally, I think non-paying members are scum. A bunch of leeching malcontents, that's what they are. Commitment! That's what they need!

lol greenandwhitejedi!
I like everyone's comments....but it does seem like a lot of "regulars" are busy these days, myself included. I've got the younglings home from school for the summer...changes the whole routine here in the amidalooine homestead.

People who aren't paying the money to join Hyperspace don't necessarily have less of a passion for Star Wars. StarWars.com is for anyone who loves Star Wars not just the official fan club members!

BothanBoy, do you remember that British blogging thing you set up? well it appears that some people may have not read it and stuff and have forgotten about it, I like what you are doing, I want to revive it and get more Brits to sign up so I was wondering if I can have your permission to do so?
Cheers

I don't have hyperspace because I'm a 'youngling', and the cost is to much to justify the ends, for me. I'm happy with being able to reply and comment. Also, I don't think I would use hyperspace much - I wouldn't often post my own blog.

I was a non- member fan for about 2 months before I decided to make the jump to Hyperspace. Why. Just wanted to "try it out" before investing my $39.95 and am pretty sure there are others that do the same. I'm happy I joined the site even tho I haven't gotten my membership kit yet.

I love seeing a new face - or lack of a face in my blogs! HS member or not. I really do like to see non- HS members because it seems they might have gone a little more out of the way just to read my blog. I'll take any readership - I'm not biased. When I see a new HS member comment in my blog its cool too - I'll usually check out their blog too.
Blogging comes in waves around here. Now with the start of summer, there's a bit of a lull, but not suprising. Sometimes there are waves of ne HS members, but I wonder if we wont see much until the TV shows are closer.

I was going to join HS this week, but then I spent all my money on a DS Lite, which is awesome , but which leaves me without Hyperspace . I swear, money literally burns a hole in my pocket. Next week, though, next week...

I agree with greenandwhitejedi, maybe we should ignore the non-members, you know teach 'em a lesson. Wait a second!!!!! But seriously, my parents don't think I need hyperspace since I can comment. It's not that I less commited the parents are just cheep

When HS was first revealed to us mods, my first concern was that it would create a type of elitism - that some folks would feel better than others because they had a fanclub membership.
Happily, for the most part I've been proven wrong. Yes occasionally someone has a cow in Forum Feedback - they'll say "but I'm a paying member!" as if that allows people to circumvent the rules. But for the greater majority, everyone treats people the same regardless of membership status. I hope it always stays that way.
I think its nice to feel part of something special as an HS member, but not at the expense of those that aren't. Not everyone has $40 they want to, or can, spend on this stuff.
DM out

yeh I know what you mean DM it is nice to feel elite in some way now and again, but its also nice to hear from a range of different views both member and non-member.

Same here jk. I'm not "picky" on who comments on my blogs...many non-HS members have the best comments/opinions. I try to do my best to respond to everyone who comments on my blog...though I sometimes make a general "thank you to all" because of space and/or time. I lurked around the blogs for a few months before I stared writing my own, and I feel better for it. Like jk, I also try to "visit" the blogs of "new" faces just to see what they're saying.

ive been around since january or so. im happy without paying. ive been asking k-fan for a few days if i should now but i dont see why we should mean to the people who dont want or cant pay 40 bucks to write a blog and have an avatar. im thinking about getting a hyperspace but i dont think my parents will let me because i have to use their credit card because i dont have one. because im only 14 doesnt mean i need a credit card even if i cant. i mean look at me jedi master michael and green and white jedi. we comment a lot but there are a lot of new hyperspacers lately it feels weird not knowing everyone who might just pop up. i havent seen the bonthan boy or use the force or some of the others since the begining of this month.

i concur completely, diversity on this subject as well as others is most welcome by me.
however for some of us older folks (the ones who were around in '77) having a place like hyperspace to go and sort out some questions about our shared passions is like having our youth brought back to us to relive and rejoice in the fond memories of old. then again having the youth of today share their views with us brings them closer to our perspective as well also helping the older crowd to see the younger in a more clearer light.

i ran out of room on the last blog. so here goes it.
im thinking about getting a hyperspace but i dont think my parents will let me because i have to use their credit card because i dont have one. because im only 14 doesnt mean i need a credit card even if i cant. it is a matter of respect (i'm not implying that you or any other non-member has no respect) it is just that when a service is provided it is respectful to offer a donation to help with the funds needed to provide said service-in this case the membership fee. perhaps if you helped out your parentals with the cash up front in exchange for CC usage they would be more willing to help you?
