Balance of the Force
Whenever discussing the Chosen One and the Prophecy, the balance of the Force usually comes up.

I know Anakin destroyed the sith and brought the Force back into balance, but how so???
I mean, wouldn't it be balanced if both sides were intact? Perhaps they were reffereing to the balance of conflict, meaning with out the dark side, the always present teetering of good and bad would somewhat be demolished.

But that just doesn't seem like balance to me. Like the the Symbol Ying-Yang. You have to have the Ying in coordination with the Yang. (lol, if that makes sense) They exist through support of each other, the balance of forces, but that is beside the point.

Can anybody explain?

Theory 1-Well, remember the prophecy was written by a Jedi. The Jedi and Sith both believe in absolute power over the Force. The difference is that the Jedi use their dominance for good instead of evil. The disrupted balance makes sense.

Theory 2-Maybe the prophet sensed that the balance would be messed up when the Jedi were destroyed, and the balance would be restored by a near lack of both groups of Force-users?

Feel free to destroy this comment with cross-questioning :D

At aome time with ani and palp as sith, and obi-wan and yoda as jedi(including those few sith and jedi who are non important) I think there could be a balance of the number of users.

The Sith caused the imbalance by spreading their influence throughout the galaxy. It is the same principle as a disease causing an imbalance in the organism it infects. The Force set out to purge the disease and so got rid of the Jedi and the Republic. Anakin restored balance to the Force when he destroyed the Sith (ie himself and Palpatine). Then the galaxy could begin again with a new Republic and Jedi Order.

There is no Chosen One because you can't have a lightside without the darkside. They are one in the other. The lightside is defined by the darkside that plagues it. Both the Jedi and the Sith will be eliminated and reborn because of there mindset. The circle of death and birth is the inbalance.

didn't anakin bring the force back into balance by turning to the dark side?

The following is thoroughly my opinion and my own understanding: The Force certainly has a will of its own. It brings about its will by using the selective Force-sensitive people, usually divided into two groups: lightside users (Jedi) and darkside users (Sith). The lightside users were supposed to use their Force sensitivity to, of course, sense what the Force's will is and to carry it out. Darkside users used their Force sensitivity for their own benefits and power.

So, in other news, the Jedi were using their Force abilities for the benefit of the what they believed to be was for the good of the Republic. As everyone has heard a hundred times before, the Republic was becoming corrupt, rotting from the inside out. By Anakin destroying the Jedi and the Republic, the Force kinda ... had a clean slate to work with. The Force started anew with a new era and a new pawn, Luke. 'Course, you know how the rest of the story goes. Force finds Luke, Force brings Luke to Daddy, Force wins. Yay! Heh..

IMHO, the key word is "balance". The Dark Side rules iron-handedly, whereas the Light Side is more liberal. Ergo, a few decades of dark rule equals a few millenia of light rule. Balance. Like keeping a ntional budget: You don't wanna spend more than you have, but you don't want huge wads of cash just lying around, either.
