 | Walmart sucks |
Did anyone else experience this?
Maybe I'm being too critical. Perhaps I'm a tad perfectionist. Or a lot of those things.
My wife got me the Revenge of the Sith DVD from Walmart, only because I asked her and was intrigued by the bonus DVD they offered. I figured it wouldn't hurt; if I hated the bonus DVD, I still had Star Wars. The final chapter. In all of its two disc glory. I'd get over the bonus if it stunk, which it does.
Rotting, stinking garbage from some TV special, I suppose. I didn't even watch any more than ten minutes of "The Story of Star Wars," because it pretty much just puked out the story we know as narrated by Anthony Daniels. Or maybe it's not even him, but a very good sound-a-like. Either way, it sucks. But like I said, I could overlook that since I have Episode III to complete my collection.
But here's where I get critical: my other two prequels episodes came in nice, hard plastic cases that shimmer nicely. My Episode III, however, has warped plastic that distorts the cover art, and a thinner plastic casing than any other Lucasfilm DVD I own. I noticed this when comparing all the prequel cases side by side.
Why should I care about this? Maybe I shouldn't. Maybe I'm just being the overzealous DVD owner who hates snapper cases (dangit those things drive me crazy!!). Go ahead, call me such, but what gets me about this is that I can easily imagine Walmart doing this.
Recipe: Episode III DVDs by Walmart, Inc.
* Gobs of Episode III DVDs. To take down the price, finagle 20th Century to sell just the discs and covers. No cases.
* Gobs of cheaper DVD casings from Joe's ransackle DVD outlet in Miami.
* Thousands of migrant workers to box up the discs and cover art in the cheap-a** cases.
Stir all ingredients, sell at "Walmart" price to entice idiot consumers. Serves billions.
...
Why would they do this? I have no idea. Just to #### me off, I suppose. Anyway, as dumb as it sounds, when Lucasfilm gets around to releasing a full box set of the Star Wars saga, I now might not be so loathe to shell out again. All because of Walmart.
I guess that's what they want. Bloody capitalists. Right now that group of protesters who boycott and try to inform the public of the evil philanthropy of Walmart ain't lookin' so bad.
