The jedi never learn to read or write. They are taken from their homes when they are 1 or 2 years old and go straight to the academy. There, they learn the ways of the force, not to read and write. Its no wonder the clones beat them so easily, they challenged the Jedi to a spelling bee. Loser is wiped out of the galaxy.

Sure, the midi-chlorians might do something, but not teach them all that stuff.
