Duel of the fates... er... the mods.
So what the heck happens when mods disagree, anyway? I mean, we can't ALL be peaches & cream on everything ALL the time, can we? Contrary to popular belief, we weren't all created from the same mold... nor do we all bear striking resemblance to Temuera Morrison or Bodie Taylor. Our habits are different, our backgrounds are different, our residences are different, our faces are different, and believe it or not, our genders are even different in some cases as well (and in one case, there's even a difference of species involving a large rack... of antlers).

So every now and then (not often, mind you), a banning or a locked thread will occur and that ugly difference of opinion may rear its greasy head. So what happens?

For the most part, even the snarkiest of mods are civil to each other. I know it's hard to believe in the own-or-be-owned world of internet message boards, but it's true. All those who have posted nasty threads in Feedback about Master Mike and vandaronas wouldn't believe that behind the scenes, they're actually pretty agreeable fellas. Or maybe I'm ruining their image by saying so... ;) I'll lay off the name-dropping.

But seriously, if I ban someone and another mod thinks I'm being too harsh, he'll tell me so. We'll both discuss our sides of it and if other mods feel so inclined, they weigh in as well. And basically, what it comes down to is the fact that I banned the member and it's up to me to unban them if we as a group decide to do so. Now that doesn't mean that it's a gang-up effort to try to CONVINCE me otherwise. Don't get any bright ideas about lobbying your favorite mod, because that simply won't work. Again, contrary to popular belief, we have different personalities and are capable of making our own decisions. Whether or not you personally LIKE our decisions is your own issue to deal with, I suppose.

Moderating message boards is an interesting thing. Sometimes there are hard-and-fast rules, and sometimes there just aren't. Obviously, it's our responsibility to uphold and enforce the Terms of Service. Those rules ARE hard-and-fast. You just can't cross certain lines. But sometimes it IS up to us to make judgement calls and now and then, we differ in our judgement. And don't get the idea that we're just bickering squabbling delegates. More often than not we are a united front, with the welfare of the Star Wars online community in mind.

Our disagreements seem to be few and far between. They DO happen. But we work things out. And rest assured that after something is discussed and decided upon, we will all uphold the decision - even those of us who may have argued against it in the discussion process.

This blue group of mods IS united. And we's like peas & carrots.

Happy posting.
