Respect
As you may or may not have noticed, things have been kinda "tense" on the Boards lately. People in the Cantina have been causing the most problems. The other Forums are doing okay. Pretty calm everywhere, though they're getting excited in the ROTS Forum and I think we're all looking forward to the DVD. Maybe an extreme newbie here or there, with a Post a Topic button addiction, but other than that, it's all cool.

It's not cool enough in the Cantina. I don't know what it is with that place, but there's always something going on, or so it seems. Vandy (Forum Jedi Vandaronas) has always been clear about the Cantina. "They should get rid of it." He does have a point. ;-D But even though we're talking about the Star Wars Message Boards, the Cantina (off-topic non-Star Wars "discussion") remains one of the most popular areas. I doubt they'd get rid of it. So I guess we will just have to work on it. On the lack of respect.

Look, that you don't like someone, fine. You can even say as much. "I don't like you." Heck, you could throw in a "He doesn't like you either.". But as soon as you mention death sentences and start to get "physical", you're going too far. And you know what, one of us Forum Jedi may just chop your arm off.

What you do off the boards does not concern us. Many times we've been confronted with "You should see him on AIM or MSN or whatever..." or "She e-mailed me this." or "On those boards he did that!". That's great and everything, but we're here to look out for the boards. We're here to enforce the rules. Rules that apply to stuff that happens on the boards. If you flame someone on the boards for something that happened off the boards, well, then you're gonna get smacked. And not the other one. If you have to respond and really, sometimes it's just better to shut up, don't do it here!

If it starts on MSN, finish it on MSN.

:D

Another disturbing trend is ganging up on an individual. There are rumors going around about how people get together on MSN and come up with a strategy to get someone banned, that's just sad. Flamebaiting is, in my opinion, worse than flaming, so it may just end up being punished more harshly too.

If you have a problem with someone, get a life and deal with it. Be civil about it, don't act like an immature youngling. Not here.

And another thing, report incidents. Real incidents. Again, stuff on the boards, not comments made on instant messaging or God knows where. Because without real evidence of inappropriate behavior on the boards, those reports with be discarded. And they may even annoy us and lead to the exact opposite of what you're trying to accomplish.

Without going into great detail, the boards work like this, we deal with redundancy, we look out for a notorious thread or two, and we keep an eye on the feedback areas. But other than that, ask not what your Forum Jedi can do for you, ask what you can do for your Forum Jedi.

A little note about us mods, we're not clones, we're all pretty unique, and that shows. But our opinions on modly matters, such as bannings, don't differ that much. There's only a handful of us left (Forum Jedi Purge, you see... ;-p), depending on when a certain incident occurs, at what time, one mod may have to deal wih that stuff more often than others. But don't believe others would handle it differently...

Anyhoo, respect the rules, respect each other. Go forth and blog/post responsibly.

;)
