Hey, you have ten fingers, I have ten fingers, let's be friends. We'll make rules and slogans. Then if we find someone with nine fingers, we can beat the crap out of them.
As Mrs. Georgia Lass so eloquently pointed out people have a natural tendency to form social groups (cliques) both in real life and on the internet. And for the most part (talking about just the internet aspect now) there is no problem with that. Everyone wants to feel like they are a part of something. The trick is to know how far to take it.
It is ok to have a group of friends and have a name for yourselves. However don't treat it as some VIP club with a red velvet rope and a Gamorrean bouncer. It is not something to be used to intimidate other posters. Nor is membership to said cliques something to hold above their heads and tell them to jump for.
The cliques themselves are not a problem until members perceive that membership into the clique is an exclusive thing and makes them better than other posters. At which point things can get ugly and no one wants that.
