Star Wars Survey Question: Trekkies
I'm starting a twice a week Star Wars Survey for Mondays and Thursdays. Along with the survey question I might also stick a couple other questions in that match the subject.

Todays question:

I have heard that a lot of Star Warsians don't like Trekkies (Putting it mildly.) When it comes to Trekkies and Star Trek do you:

A) Ignore them :|

B) Dislike them X-(

C) Your one of them :D

D) I watch a couple episodes now and then :)

E) Other ?:|

Thats it for this weak. I am very anxious to here your comments on this particular subject. Is this whole "Star Wars Geeks vs Trekkie's" a myth? Or is it real?

Thanks for stopping,

BlueX

Meh - it's a myth.
I love a good Trek episode or film as much as the next person.
But it will never take the place of Star Wars for me.

Star Trek is a TV Series, let me rephrase, several TV series and a few films about space exploration and travel. Its set a couple hundred years forward in Earth's future.

I guess E.

Let me explain: I enjoy Star Trek a great deal. I remember a lot about the episodes and movies I have seen. However, I haven't quite mastered all the lore like I have with Star Wars.

Furthermore, my wife is a huge Star Trek fan. She really knows her stuff. However, I wouldn't go so far as to call her a Trekkie. To me, that term implies costumes, knowledge of the Klingon language, etc. That isn't her.

Same here. I don't know any trivia or read any books, and the Trekkies look silly in their costumes.... but I don't hate them.

Heck, we used to play "Trek" on the playground when I was in the 5th grade.... but that was before Star Wars...

There would be no "Trek" beyond the original series if it had not been for the success of SW. Which has nothing to do with your question!

But still a good thing to note, thank you Granny-Wan. :)

I have a lot of friends who are Trekkies, but Star Trek just doesn't interest me. I'd say it's a myth. I mean, Mr. Roddenberry and George are friends!
By the way, it bugs me that they get to be "Trekkies" and we're stuck with just "Star Wars fans". Why don't we get a cool name?

I really have no Idea, sometimes we even get tagged as Star Wars geeks. I read a blog recently and that subject was addressed, I'll find it. At the Moment I'm using the term Star Warsian. It isn't really cool, but it will do for now.

I've never heard of that. But I like it. :)
It does kind of remind me of Battlestar Galactica, the 1978 version.

I guess I'm an E! There are parts of ST that I LOVE...loved the original series and the first four films. Wrath of Khan is not far below the SW films on my "best" lists. I liked the most recent ST incarnation with Scott Bakula. But the rest of it...nope...don't care.

Right now I don't watch much of anything on TV...so I'm all about films....and no film will ever impact my life the way SW has.

I guess I'd be E. I've probably seen every episode of every series and each movie at least once, but I'm not devoted enough to consider myself a Trekkie. I generally don't read their novels or comics, and I don't speak Klingon (of course, I don't plan to learn Mando'a, either). My father was a Star Trek fan when I was a kid, and I think that's what predisposed me to becoming such a big Star Wars fan.

D, but I really enjoy it when I do watch it. I'd never say I'm a full fledged Trekkie, but I do know how to say "Where is the bathroom?" in Klingon.

As far as the "SW vs. ST" debates, yeah. It's a myth. Apples and oranges man. Sure, there are those who staunchly stand on one side of the fence or the other, but they don't really let the other's existence bother them. People who like both (and there are plenty) usually like each one for different reasons. Star Wars deals a lot with families, betrayal, and the Force. Star Trek has politics and scientific discovery. Sure, all of those things can be found in both, but I think each phenomenon has its strengths and weaknesses.

I'm reminded of this one time on TV when one of those shows known for heated political debate had a special interview with a fan from each side. When asked probing questions by the host, the two representatives could only agree that while they each had a personal preference, they both enjoyed both shows. The host was so frustrated that she couldn't get the two guys at each other's throats! LOL
