My thoughts on RotS...
My least favorite of all of the SW movies it RotS. There were a couple things I would have liked done differently:

First of all I think they should have kept the scenes with Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and the other senators where they were discussing the Crumbling republic and hinting at the Rebel Alliance.

And the other thing that keeps nagging me is Liea's line in RotJ where she tells how she knew her mother. Yet according to the film her mom died ten seconds after she was born! (Ok, slight exaggeration) what I thought they would have done there, was maybe try hiding Padme on Alderan then after she died, Organa would adopt Leia. (I'm not sure if Obi-Wan would have insisted on taking Luke to Tatooine right away, or if he would have waited and picked up Luke after Padme died.)

so there's my thoughts on Eplll. I also don't like the fact that it was so dark, but they were trying to get a point across. Oh well. :(

I agree that certain scenes should have stayed in the film. I guess they figured they didn't move the storyline very well. I too would have loved to have seen that scene with Mon Mothma and Bail Organa and the others discussing the Republic's crumbling and what they'd do about it.

The death of Padme is always a problem. In some ways, it didn't make any sense. Obviously, she was going to die (or otherwise why give the babies up to the Organas and Lars families). I too think the scene should have been done better. Oh, well.

As for the overall dark nature of the fillm, yeah they were just trying to get the point across over Anakin's transformation to Darth Vader.

Nice thoughts

Great blog!

Padme's death and Leia's Rotj comment are 2 things that I did not like so much either. Overall I do like ROTS, despite some of these issues. I do feel the ROTS was a tough film to make, lots of challenges like setting up Ep. 4 and the climatic fall of Anakin to the darkside.

The movie needed to be dark to set up what happens after the clone wars, in my opinion. ]:)

Thanks for sharing your though on the movie. Personally, ROTS is my favorite one, mainly because it is dark. Nothing it better that Star Wars on the edge in my opinion. That's why I love the current EU, because it is so dark.

In my opinion, the death of Padme makes perfect sense with the movie, because in the ancient Greek tragedy, death because of a broken heart was often used. ROTS is very similar in a lot of ways to a Greek tragedy. So kudos to George on that.

And, it also makes perfect if with look at the exact works of Leia on her mother. She talks about images and feelings of her, that she was beautiful but sad. It was exactly how her mother was during her pregnancy. So Leia talks about something she recalls with the help of the Force.

About the "she died when I was very young" phrase, it was certainly what the Organas has told her. To protect her, it was better for her to not know the exact details.

The scenes with Mon Mothma are nice and important and I'm glad we were able to see them. But if you try to see the film with them in there, they really don't belong in the movie. After this experience, I'm glad they were left out.

RotS was my favorite movie of the prequel trilogy and probably my third favorite Star Wars movie overall.

A bit of advice: don't take every line ever uttered by a character in the movies as the literal truth. The characters, like real people, are conveying their perceptions and their memories. They are sometimes wrong, they sometimes exaggerate, they sometimes lie. Furthermore, there is the issue of truth and a certain point of view.

Interesting thoughts though.

ROTS is my favorite of the PT because it gave us the tragic story behind Darth Vader. For me it made him human. Even tho he took a bad step turning to The Dark Side, I understood why and that I believe was the purpose of the PTs. The scene with Mon Mothma and her company didn't give or take away from ROTS. We all knew that Padme was completely against the Chancellor and his strugge to obtain "unlimited power" and that's what counted...Padme.

Everyone has their own opinions tho.

I too believe ROTS is my favorite of the PT. The other two just lead us up to that point. I think it was a well-made story and though there were some problems with it (read some people didn't care for certain scenes) I loved it. I agree with lily. It made Vader human.

Could that be why I chose Vader in my screenname?????]:)

I like ROTS the most out of PT, but it's certainly not my favorite Star Wars film. ROTS imo had alot of problems. One of these that I was getting really annoyed with the other day when I was watching it was the length of the scenes. The scenes in the movie was just way to short, and I thought they didn't stay on one plot for too long. Everything kinda just jumped around until the end where you finally get the feeling of the OT.

I really think the movie would have been better suited if it was 3 hours long, longer scenes to better explain things. I also believe Anakin's fall was was very abrupt, like there was no thought in it. Another problem I have with the whole PT is the fact that it seemed too fake, the OT was believable because things looked real. The PT didn't have that same effect, there was something artificial about it.

I can never see Padme staying with one twin while giving away the other. I could see her staying away from both twins . . . or dying.

I agree. I think it was too soon to be starting on the rebellion against the Empire.
