Who Wants to Be a Superhero?
I do! I do!

This is my new favorite show on the Sci-Fi network... well at least favorite REALITY show on the Sci-Fi network. Watch as seemingly "normal" humans transform themselves into wacky superheroes as they compete in challenges for the ultimate prize -- to be immortalized in a Stan Lee comic and have their own TV movie on sci-fi.

Stan the Man judges and I have to say it's pretty entertaining.

My pick has always been Major Victory! I think he won me over with his hair and his giggle-inducing Pepe Le Pue run.

Check out the video teaser and other clips here.

As I watch this show I can't help but wish we did something like this for Lucasfilm. Think about it. Normal fans audition for a reality TV show where they don a Jedi (or Sith) persona to compete in various challenges to be a Jedi Master -- who will then be immortalized in a Dark Horse comic.

Imagine the possibilities! Who would you be? What would the challenges be? And who the heck should judge it?

Who would you be?
Hmmmm, I don't know...;)

What would the challenges be?
Giving a speech to 2nd graders Yoda-style. (a la his younglings class)

And who the heck should judge it?
Too easy...GEORGE LUCAS! and you bonniegrrl!

Funny!

You beat me to this Blog. I have watched the show and thought it was hilarious. But I began to notice somrthing. Stan Lee is holding these heroes to good moral values. I have found most "reality" shows reward deceit and backstabbing. I am happy to see that this show is holding its contestants to high heroic values.

Since forc ablity cannont be challenged. the events for a Jedi game would have to be moral based.

Why doesn't Stan Lee have a picture fo Spiderman or the Hulk or one of his Better characters behind him?Why is it Stripperella? ?:|

That would be awesome! Is there any way you can make suggestions? If you can, please, please open it up to Padawans like me (under 18) too!

Sign me up!!!!

I think the challenges would be similar to The Game of Life: Jedi Edition... that was super cool... too bad I haven't been able to get a copy of it...

I love this show. It's the first reality show I've seen that values contestants being good people. And the supervillain angle was an ingenious twist.

What a super cool idea!

In an ideal world, judges would be Steve Sansweet (from the fan angle), George Lucas (from the storytelling angle), and Hayden Christensen ('cause he's the only actor who's been both Sith and Jedi). And there's only one challenge: have the contestant prove that s/he has best internalized the Jedi (or Sith) teachings. So a good Jedi wannabe might become a crimefighting monk, while a Sith-in-training would try to take over the world.

Me? I'd be Darth Paparazzious.

I think I'll have to watch that show. And a LFL idea would be a lot of fun. Maybe somebody high up can put the bug in the right people's ear. As for judges, I think George Lucas has to be involved since he created the story. I would also like to see some authors and artists be involved in the judging as they'll have to flesh out the story of the new Jedi/Sith.

I think this would be an awesome idea for LFL. To see a fan immortalized in the EU as a Jedi or Sith of their own creation? Beautiful. Too bad it would probably never happen or, if it did, we'd see a million hopefuls claiming to be Luke Skywalker's long-lost, equally powerful brother or a bunch of "he's like Han Solo with a lightsaber" and that would be a waste of a wonderful opportunity.

That would be AWESOME!!

Let's see if we can use our collective Jedi mind powers to get the idea across to the powers that be.

Awesome, just awesome.

If I'm not mistaken, we have 3 LFL employees on this site. Can any of you go and say anything to your superiors.

I finally got to see an episode of this last night! I had been waiting for this show, but was gone all of July and couldnt watch.

Definitely my favorite current show right now, and I've only seen the one episode. How's that for preconceived notions of grandeur? Dark Horse and Stan Lee unite for a superhero show? How can it be bad??

Wow - If Lucasfilm did what you describe... that would be incredible. It might be chaos in the fandom though. Many Bothans could die, just to get to the auditions!

You know, when I first found out about this show in a Dark Horse news letter, my first thought was that Dark Horse, my beloved Star Wars comic book publisher, had jumped on the trashy reality TV show bandwagon. I haven't seen the show yet, but I may have to check it out now, since my initial cynical assessment has been shot to pieces by positive comments from Star Wars fans!

It's nice to see that reality TV isn't all bad...

I watched "Who Wants To Be A Superhero" for the first time last night and found it very entertaining. I liked that the contestants were supposed to have superhero values and that they took all kinds of contestants, not just the usual straight-out-of-Hollywood pretty and skinny people.

I can't help but love this show.

Major Victory is hilarious. He looks like Mr. Incredible and over-exagerates the corney superhero stereotype. He also reminds me of Adam West's Batman.

Feedback seems like the likely winner. He takes every challenge seriously and is a dedicated fan of Stan's comics, even going so far as to say that they helped him become a man.

I am amazed that Fat Momma has made it as far as she has. She did poorly in the phisical challeges, but excelled in the ones that were based on compassion. I'm not sure what to think of her.
