Just How Does Lucas Dot His I?
Recently, a college professor's widow came across a 42-year-old term paper George Lucas wrote while attending a Modest Junior College class before he transfered to film school.

So at her friends' insistence she decided to put the handwritten paper up for bid at a collector's auction after getting permission from Lucas himself.

After taking a really close look at the paper itself, you can learn a lot about Lucas. Well, actually all I cared about was that he dots his "I"s with cute little circles. Oh, and he has gigantic handwriting, which I suppose I would too if I had to write a paper called ''Studies in Semi-Nomadism in North Africa." Dullsville.

Heritage Galleries added it to its floor auction scheduled for Oct. 8 in Dallas, in case any of you feel like bidding.

By George, she found an old paper

I love that the widow will spend the money on food and cat toys. I'm sure if Lucas knew that his paper would one day supply a cat with a year's worth of catnip, he would have written more.

That does bring up an interesting point (especially the one that Dark Moose made in my comments area). How does Lucas feel about an old term paper being auctioned off like it was some sort of super-collectible Star Wars script? It makes you wonder about what you should hang on to if you plan on being famous.

I remember seeing an exhibit of artist Keith Harring's old text books that he had doodled on in high school. Back then no one knew (except maybe his mom) that he would grow up to be one of the world's most beloved modern artists. I mean, I doodled on my books too -- mostly vampire bats and "I Heart Bauhaus" scribbles. But if I had ANY idea that one day I could be famous, I'm sure I would have held on to those masterpieces. As well as my poorly made wallet I made in fabrics class, or the spatula I made in shop, or even the haiku poems I wrote about mummies in English class.

But I'm not Lucas, so I doubt my poorly-written paper on how the movie Aliens could be considered a riot grrrl blueprint will go for more than $5.

Any bidders?

On a side note - how creepy is it to find your old school papers are being auctioned off and available in Knollvision on the internet? :0) Can you imagine? That's gotta be weird for the George.

What I want to know is, upon closer inspection, do those cute little circles actually look like mini Death Stars?
Do his H's look like TIE fighters?
Do his X's do barrel rolls across the page?
These are the things that we need to know about The Flannelled One...

I really like the Death Star theory here. Much better than handwriting analysis saying that little circles over the "i's" is either a sign of independence, immaturity or creativity. hmmm.

It's mighty strange to think that something could come up from the past, like a term paper..or worse...dorky pics...yuk!! I dearly hope no teacher/professor cared to save, or was obsessive in saving, anything I ever did. Not that they'd be worth anything other than fire fodder! hehe

There's something profoundly, strangely sweet about that statement.

Oh, and I think that paper actually sounds interesting... I'll trade you for some rare HeroClix doubles... they're probably worth more than $5. :p

Yeah, I wonder what other directors' term papers must have been like.

I bet you Quentin Tarantino's papers would be an interesting read...
this could be a whole new collectible genre that's currently virtually untapped!

Of course, Spielberg wouldn't write his term paper.
He'd storyboard it.

Kevin Smith would get all his best friends to help him write it, and he'd draw plenty of Death Stars on it so people would read it.

...That's not a slam, I love the guy's work!
