May the Pixelated Force Be With You

Nothing is cooler than seeing your favorite scenes from the original trilogy in animated...well, low-fi animated form!

The first one is a 168k animated GIF rendered in pixelart animation featuring almost every important scene in A New Hope. The space battles look amazingly accurate, and even R2 is fairly dead on. All that's missing is the MIDI soundtrack!

The next one is in a 211k animated GIF of The Empire Strikes Back, complete with a hilarious-looking Wampa monster! arrrrgh!

I enjoyed Pixel Star Wars, though many critics have been rough on the last two films. This one is a smashing success on its own terms, achieving exactly what Lucas wanted and carrying most of its viewers where they want to go. It's also the most visually prodigious of the sextet, with action sequences that explode off the screen and engaging characters. Pixel Empire
begins with an amazing, bang-up battle, but lacks the cohesive flow of the first film. Though visually unique, it falls emotionally flat early on, but redeems itself in some meatier philosophical dialog.

2 hooves up for Pixel Star Wars, 1 hoof down for Pixel Empire.
