Oil Bath Bubbles

Trust me, after today you won't hear much more about C IV
Well, I've returned to normality and miss the hurly burly of the convention already.
My feet don't, however.

Before I resume the madness that is Oil Bath Bubbles, please indulge me as I share with you my personal highs and lows of the last week.

I think I'll start with the lows, just to get them out of the way.

I don't like griping, so I'll keep them brief.

Exclusive items: A great idea, IF the real fans ever get a chance to buy them. It didn't matter what I did to get to the areas early, either items were sold out in two days, or VIP and admin badge holders had already bought them before the rest of us were allowed into the building - a bit of a kick in the teeth for life long lovers of the saga, and just encouraging scalpers quite frankly... bah!

Lining up for line-ups: The whole 'get a voucher before you get an autograph or pay for art' thing. This meant I spent more time in lines, thus missing panels I wanted to see, and totally missing several rooms... doh!

The Opening Ceremony: Meh. The cake was cool though :)

OK - enough of being an old, ungrateful fussy pants.

What rocked about C IV?

Meeting the bloggers: It was truly wonderful to get to meet the wonderful folks who make these blogs what they are - Deej is an absolute hero for organizing the meet and greet, Granny-Wan is now officially Super Gran for sorting out the tools for the weblink and Michelle is an angel for sending all the prizes for our trivia games - there are still a few folks I didn't get to chat to for long enough, but come C V I'll rectify that oversight!

Chatting to strangers in the lines: Star Wars fans - they're just like you and me!

Meeting inspirational artists: It was great to chat to Steve and Randy, and I got a thrill when Joe said he liked my blog :) I also had some time to talk to Harrison Ellenshaw who (along with Joe Johnston and Ralph McQuarrie) was the main reason I went to art school all those years ago.

Stooging for a while: It was terrific to finally get to sit and have a good old chin wag with The Stooge, and even better to play games with Hannah, the cutest Stoogling in the room!

Seeing the convention through the eyes of a child: When Darth Travi turned up, the look on his face said it all. My young apprentice couldn't believe he was surrounded by so much... Star Wars... and nearly lost his ten year old mind. I was right there with him ;)

Endor: The thrill of seeing the tree we built placed in the Endor diorama - despite the fact that our walkway looked like a drunk ewok had built it.

Autographs: I added about 16 new signatures to my old, yellowing, beat up first edition copy of Star Wars. Oh, and Greedo likes me, and Ray Park signed my DJ Maul shirt and wants one himself!

Greedo: I doubled the size of my Greedo collection in one fell swoop. Oh yes - I shopped first.

Loot: Ye Gods, Pidluk, Darth Kerfuffle and I bought way too much stuff, I'll lay it out and take a picture of it to show you at a later date.
Way too much stuff....

JediPrincess77: Bethany did us proud - she blew everyone away with her singing at the celebrity competition, and I heard several people muttering afterwards how she should have placed. And I have to say that GreenandWhitejedi is the tallest and most caring PA she could ever ask for.

Speaking of GreenandWhiteJedi: I'm now sitting here staring at a couple of clones he brought to me all the way from Japan - dude, you are generous and jolly nice to boot. I take back everything I said...

Charlie Ross's One Man Show: I laughed like a drain, then cried when he ended with the words "celebrate the love" - I'm getting too emotional in my old age.

The Clone Wars sneak peek: I cried again. Yep - blubbed like a little baby. I guess Star Wars does mean a lot to me... BTW - Dave Filoni: possibly the nicest guy at the entire convention!

Amira: Not only was Amira graceful on stage, but she was gracious offstage, enduring the rigors of a two hour interview session with Paul and I, and coming over as a beautiful person inside and out - thanks, Amira! BTW - watching a stormtrooper belly dance: priceless.

Wookieepedia: It was great to meet Bob and the boys at the wookieepedia table - Darth Travi is now a convert :)

And finally: My lovely wife walking over and waving a couple of Celebration Europe tickets in my face, even though we both know we can't really afford to go, but it's a good excuse to go and see me mum ;)

And that's it for now.

The Oil Bath is getting back up to temperature - very soon I will be kicking off Threepio Week, and the next chapter of The Suns of Solamonn will also trundle along very soon, so until then,

Adieu, mon petite saucisson.

Great recap nob ... sounds like a fantastic time you had! The meet & greet party was really great to watch on the webcam, and to get to know some of you even better! It was almost like being there ... almost. Definitely the next time I will be there.

I was a bit worried ... I saw your name go in black letters whilst you were gone and thought the worst! But glad to see they're back in orange, and you're back in Blogsville!

Dude, it was such an awesome time hanging with you throughout the on, and a pleasure of course meeting Pidluk, Darth Kerfuffle and Darth Travi as well!

I know a LOT of us didnt get to say proper goodbyes; such is the nature of large groups at even larger conventions, but its great to see you home safe n sound and PLEASE pass a hug to your lovely wife and a hearty THANK you to Paul for his assistance at the M&G and for documenting so much of the Con. Cant wait to see HIS pics!

Star Wars fans - they're just like you and me!

Really? Whoda thunk? :p

No! Wait! I WANT to hear more about C4 from you! It's what us fans who stayed at home have been starving for! Well, me at least. I got past the jealous stage long ago... like Friday.

Did you get a lot of footage, I mean aside from Amira (which sounds fabulous and I can't wait to see!) - And if you did, will you be uploading some teasers/clips for us?

Are you really going to CEurope then?:|

Glad to see your ame in orange (is that the right color?) again. I got a little worried :D

Here, here! And may I say that Pidluck is as beautiful inside as she is outside. Such a sweetheart!

Thank you again for helping me with my blog-a-lot dilemma. You were working on it until the last minute, and I felt so bad!

You get to go to Celebration Europe??!! LUCKY!!

Here, here!!! :D

The best thing about reading your blog entries now is that I can "see" you in my mind - all your mannerisms; and "hear" your voice!! It adds such a deeper dimension to all of this - very cool!

Great recap of the Con!! To me, ALL of CIV ROCKED, but I agree with the queueing-of-the-lines-thing. I had to go home Sunday and I did miss a lot I wanted to see as well. I added it up, and all-in-all I spent a total of 8 hours in lines...OK, now I'm depressed....:_|

No....I refuse to be depressed!! X-(

Seeing the convention through the eyes of a child Darth Travi was soooooo cute!! Every time I saw how much the younglings were enjoying the Con, I silently wished my two Padawans could have been there to share it with me!! Perhaps at the NEXT Celebration!

JediPrincess77: Bethany did us proud - she blew everyone away with her singing at the celebrity competition YAY JP77!!! She may not have grabbed a prize, but she is truly a winner with all of us!! :x

The Clone Wars sneak peek: I cried again. I cried b/c I couldn't be there - I was STUCK at LAX all day Sunday....grrr....:_|

Amira: Not only was Amira graceful on stage, but she was gracious offstage...and coming over as a beautiful person inside and out I totally agree!!

Have fun at Celebration Europe, and give the mum lots of love - I hope to WIN a trip! Ahhhhh...if only I were so lucky!

Take care, Nobby! It was great to meet you and your family!!! :D

Definitely another *Here, Here* :D

I agree with you about the queuing of the lines...total confusion at times. I don't think I want to know how much time I spent in line...but at least I was surrounded by other fans :) I, too, missed some things because of lines...and celebrities sneaking out for an hour at a time while I waited for their autograph ]:) . All in all, though, I can't complain.

Great recap of the con!! It was a pleasure to meet you and pidluk :D

Charlie Ross's One Man Show: I laughed like a drain, then cried when he ended with the words "celebrate the love" - I'm getting too emotional in my old age.

I think I saw you.

I LOVED C4. It was my first Star Wars Celebration, and I had the time of my life. My Mom claims I'm smiling bigger in all of our pictures than I did when I first went to Disneyland.

Anyone know about the bomb scare? They evacuated the whole building. They didn't even tell those in the opening ceremonies though!

What made me really happy was that seeing all the costumes (mostly the armor) finally convinced my parents to help me get started with my own set of armor. :^O :D

By the way, nob01, were you costumed?

I saw your name go in black letters I was curious about that, myself.

I'll add another "Here, Here," to the list. It was pleasure talking to you and Darth Travi while waiting in line on Monday. BTW, what was the model number of your camera?

I had a blast as well, although I do agree about the waiting in lines for some of the events and missing some things because of it.

Gave a good time at CEurope and say hi to your mum for us all.

See you at CV.

What a treat to meet the man behind the character weeks, the awesome artwork that always brings a smile to my face, the incredible tale of The Suns of Solamonn . . . is your head getting bigger nobby??? In all honesty, I never say anything I don't mean. The accolades are sincere. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to chat with you nearly as long as I would have liked to. We'll just have to save that for another day.

Thank you soooooooooooo much for the beautiful Luke artwork. It will earn a prominent place in my home. I will treasure it always. You really are too kind.

It was great meeting you and your wife...by the way...say hello for me.

This meant I spent more time in lines Ah yes standing in lines...the only great thing about it was it gave us more time to blab with our friends. HA.

Gald your time at CIV was fun. I had a great time. Sadly I did not get to meet any bloggers, but I still had a great time.

The Clone Wars sneak peek: That was awesome. I am living in anticipation from now to Fall 08.

I got six autographs and my dad talked to Ray Park in the bathroom.

Once again I am glad you had a good time. Peace.

It was groovy to meet you hg! As for Paul's pics - they'll take a while to catagorize - but it'll be worth it :)

That's definitely one of my regrets - I had a blast walking around with you (mainly because you are taller and could see more stuff ahead).

I got six autographs and my dad talked to Ray Park in the bathroom.
