So there we are, me and pidluk (or Kuldip to her Mom and Dad), languishing in Ottawa, when we suddenly realize that we need to pop over to Toronto to see our cousin before we fly back to San Jose.
You following this OK so far?
Then, what d'ya know, I see a post over on the Geeks Helping Geeks boards that none other than the infamous blogaholic, Slow, would be in Toronto around the same time, and a frantic bit of messaging ensued.
Suffice to say that our stars aligned, and we found ourselves face to face in the lobby of the Hilton Toronto. Why such a swanky meeting place you ask?
For some reason, Slow's bosses (PBS) think that a motley crew of ne'er-do-wells with cameras need the best accommodations on the planet - and so pid and I decided to rough it for the night in the same place.
I already knew we had much to chat about; Slow and I both have aspirations of making it big in the movie business, we both know our way around a bolex, we know why a c-stand is a man's best friend and we know where to hang our soft boxes for maximum effect. I also knew that he was a bit of an anglophile - especially when it comes to our world beating sitcoms (and I don't mean Benny Hill, Are You Being Served or Keeping Up Appearances).
We had a grand old time, chewing the fat while we chewed our mega wraps (you seriously thought we'd
eat at the Hilton?) and then retired back to our room for a good old chit chat.
What can I say? If you haven't met Slow yet, then you are missing out - he's very cool, and extremely friendly - but then he's blogger and I haven't met a bad one yet
For Slow's benefit (and yours), here is a list of English sitcoms/comedies that I insisted he watch or rewatch:
The Young Ones - Slow knows this one already.
Filthy, Rich and Catflap - The follow up to Young Ones - as bizarre as it sounds.
Bottom - Slow is a huge fan of this show, which makes him a god in my book.
The League of Gentlemen - Too strange for words.
Black Books - Brilliant.
The Green Wing - Scrubs on acid.
Peep Show - Genius, all done with POV shots.
Coupling - The English series. How did they mess it up so badly over here?
Goodness Gracious Me - Indian/Punjabi sketch show - fantastic!
And the best of the best... SPACED. If you like Hot Fuzz and love Shaun of the Dead, then you have to watch this series - it's where Simon, Nick and Edgar learned their craft, and is one the funniest shows ever made.
So there you have it.
A picture? A picture you cry?
Well, I have decided that from now on, when bloggers meet and post their photos on these blogs, that for 2008 the photos must be SEXY - yes, you heard me, SEXY!
Me and Slow have got the sexy ball rolling.
