Clash of the Titans
Two fights. These two fights shaped the galaxy. The fate of the galaxy hung at their very outcome. I think you know the two fights I am referring to. In this blog I will talk about one, the next will come later. Right now I want to talk about the Clash of the Titans.

SMACK BANG, I hear a new apprentice you have Emperor. Or should I call you Darth Sidious.
Master Yoda, you survived.
Surprised are you.
Your arrogance blind you, Master Yoda. Now you will experience the true power of the dark side.
And with that an epic fight began.

Master Yoda vs. Darth Sidious
Jedi vs. Sith
Light vs. dark

Finally we got to see the two greatest force wielders of the time face off. We had brief glimpses of their powers in past episodes. We saw the lethal lightening of the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. We saw the acrobatic fighting skills and force prowess of Yoda in Attack of the Clones. But this was it. The pinnacles of the Lightside and Darkside were facing off. No restraints. No holding back. An all out fight.

Both of these beings were fighting for the survival of there race. Yoda, was one of 100 Jedi still alive (out if about 100,000, many going into hiding and giving up the life of a force using Jedi) and fighting for the lives of his Jedi and every being in the galaxy. Sidious's regime of darkness was being threatened and all of his hard work was threatened of being abolished. They were fighting to kill the other. No, to destroy the other.

At first we see a small display of force powers, both beings being hit by the others attack. I thought it was real cool how both were hit. Yoda hit's the wall, and Sidious crashes into his chair. It looked very real.

Then, WHAT!, Sidious tries to make a run for it. Why, you ask. Because he was in the strongest, most powerful position in the galaxy. Who wants to risk ending that. Sidious ran because he knew Yoda was powerful and he did not want any damage to befall on himself while in such a position.

So, Yoda stops him. Then they say snappy dialogue. Lightsabers whip out, and the first strike is thrown. The two make there was towards the podium. It lifts up and we see, in my opinion, the best shot of all the Star Wars movies. Seeing the Senate building with the red and green lightsaber striking at each other, was just so symbolic.

When we come back to them Sidious gave up on the lightsaber and starts throwing pods around with the force. It is like he is ripping democracy from it very hinges. Eventually, Yoda uses the force and throws a nice comeback. Sidious can not find Yoda. Where is he? There he is, ZAP.

Now we see the two in a power struggle. At first Sidious appears to have the upper hand, but then Yoda makes a comeback, flinging them both in opposite directions. Sidious hangs on, while Yoda crashes into the podium. He holds on but falls, crashing three more times along the way. With that it is under stable why he fled. He lost his lightsaber and was hurt. Yoda would accept his fate. But he still has much to do until becoming one with the Force.

Never thought of that. It is amazing how the "leaders" of both sides fight physically on the Senate floor instead of debating. It shows how serious the situation became!

Nice thoughts! :)

I agree. You actually just put the thought into my head of the two of them having a heated debate.:^O That would have been a sight.

I find it very powerful that Yoda just doesn't have what it takes to win this fight. In the ROTS novelization, you really get a sense from Yoda that all of a sudden realizes how he's let the Jedi and the galaxy down. He wasn't prepared for what the Sith had become. He lost the fight and had to retreat. As much as I criticize the Jedi (and Yoda in particular) in my 5 Minute reviews, I still feel for Yoda at the end of this battle. But, I do give him great credit for later admitting that Qui-Gon has surpassed him in many ways and allowing himself to become Qui-Gon's student. Yoda does gain some humility. And then after 20 years on Dagobah he becomes a grump and drives Luke crazy. :p

I agree rj. I am constantly criticizes the Jedi in my blogs, but I feel for them. I really liked the RotS novel for exactly the reason you said. It gives us a really good look at the emotions of the Characters.

As much as I had looked forward to the duel between Anakin and Obi, the Yoda vs Sidious one ended up being my favorite of the movie.

Great blog!

I love this battle as well but I'm still very partial to Obi-Wan Vs. Anakin. The music, the flowing lava, the crashing of the sabers as one states his love for the other & one his hate. So many things going on to make that scene into an epic battle of wills. You make some very good points in your blogs darth maul517. I waited far too long to start enjoying the opportunity to talk with some of you for sure. B-)

The Yoda/Sidious fight was the best fight of the entire saga in my opinion. The Duel of Fates between ObiWan, Qui-Gon, and Maul was pretty intense, but what I think the best part of the fight between Yoda and Sidious was the dialouge between the two. It was heart wrenching to see the best of both powers going at it in thee classic Good vs Evil fight.

Great blog. :D

Master Yoda vs Lord Sidious could have been better in my opinion. It focused too much on the physical part of the duel instead of the stakes and the power of the Force.

Just my thought.

Definitely the best part of the blog.

I can't wait to read what you say about the other fight!

A great battle- perhaps the best in the saga- and your blog does it justice.

I agree ... a great battle between the two and a thrill to watch. Good job of analyzing it. Yoda did feel that he had lost, that he had failed ... he must go into hiding until the time is right to defeat the Sith. At least he understood that before Sidious could have done real harm to him.

You know...I never really used to care about the Yoda/Sidous battle before (ducks to avoid flying poodoo) :O However, as I watched ROTS more and more, I began to appreciate this battle. It is so symbolic in so many ways, and I can truly appreciate that now. Although the Anakin vs. Obi-Wan battle remains my favorite, the Yoda vs. Sidious battle falls a short second.

Great thoughts!! I look forward to your next entry :)

Thanx Jammin. I can feel the pressure.

rpvee in terms of lenght I agree. It should have been longer and have a little more attention.

Thanks ARC. Cant wait for the second one.

I agree, and thank you.

At least he understood that before Sidious could have done real harm to him.
I have always thought what would have happened if Yoda got his arm cut off or something and I am glad it did not happen.

It is cool padme. *puts away launcher* I really wanted to give this fight the exposure it deserves.

i think we're supposed to be partial to Obi vs. Vader, which was a much more emotional duel. However, I was waiting since we first saw Palpy and Yoda to have them duel, and it was so great! Setting the duel in the Senate was a smart move.
