I managed to get out and see Indiana Jones Saturday, many thanks to Sis for watching the boyos while we were away.
The movie was definitely worth it to see in the theater, although I'm not sure this is one to skip school or work to see. As we left the theater, my wife and I came to the conclusion that this was missing some historical basis. Raiders and Last Crusade were able to draw on extensive history as part of the story. ToD and KoCS not so much. The fake mythology in KoCS is great, but without the concrete historical connection, it was missing something.
Harrison Ford holds up well, and Mutt was a welcome character addition. The overt homages to other movies were not too over the top, including a good Wilhelm Scream placement (hopefully not giving too much away, motorcycle chase on campus, in the library).
Speaking of the Wilhelm Scream, I'm pretty sure I heard it in the Family Guy episode in which Peter becomes a pirate. When he shoots down the telephone pole with the cannon, the utility worker cuts one loose.
But I digress. Indy has always stretched the imagination, but never quite so much as KoCS did with physics. The nuclear weapons test with refrigerator shelter was a stretch. Mutt in the trees with the monkees was too much, as was the car off the cliff into the tree. But I can look past all of that to see the movie as Half and Half on the milk scale.
One thing I would have liked to see: at the end, the wind blows the church doors open and sitting outside is Mutt's bike.
