My mother always says that I got the "Star Wars Gene" from her. I tell her that's not true because I rented Star Wars all by myself and I was the one who wanted to go see it in theaters. Not her. When I say it wasn't her, I means she didn't tell me to watch the trilogy. Instead, I rented it and bought the ticket to see Episode 1. It could have been the Force's dealing, though. Right?
Still, I give the woman credit because she constantly tells her friends and family members the story of her family driving three hours just to see our movie in '77. I love the story like everyone else should because it's true. In '77, my mom's family drove out of the way from New Jersey just to see Star Wars. My grandfather didn't tell anyone where they were going, just that they were going some place cool.
And indeed cool it was. After seeing Star Wars, she bought the record (which I still have) and for Christmas, she was one of the people who ordered the action figures but got the "rein check" instead. Since she married my father and they had me, I've kept the memoribilia that she gave me. It really means something to her, so it means alot to me.
Even though I don't think my mother gave me the "gene", I still believe it is possible for someone to pass down the love for our beloved saga. I hope that everyone on the this does so, and I know they will. Star Wars is something that should be remember for years and years on. It should never be forgotten even now since the movies have ended. As for me and my family, we will never forget the almost-30 years that we've loved Star Wars.
