Timeline/Continuity issues: Entry #1: Padme sees Anakin's scar

Note: This will be an ongoing series of me giving my take on various Timeline/Continuity issues.





The issue: Both the comic Obsession #1 page 12 and the cartoon Clone Wars 22 scene 4 show Padme seeing the scar on Anakin's face for the first time. On the face of it, the differences between these two seem irreconcilable, but upon closer inspection I have found a way to fit them together.

Obsession: Anakin and R2-D2 arrive at Padme's lake retreat via boat. Anakin steps off. He and Padme embrace. She sees the scar, touches it, and they kiss.

Cartoon: Anakin flies into a Naboo city in his fighter (R2-D2 is in the fighter). Anakin gets out. Padme gasps, sees his scar, touches it, and they hug.

In both cases Anakin travels to where Padme is, with R2-D2 with him. Padme sees the scar, touches it, and they then share an affectionate moment. So it would seem that both are the same event.

However, if both are the same event, several questions need to be answered:

Does this happen in the city after Anakin flew there in a fighter, or does it happen at the lake retreat after Anakin traveled there by boat?

And is it hug/see scar/touch scar/kiss, or is it gasp/see scar/touch scar/hug?





My solution:

My solution to this mess is to say that these are not the same event. Hear me out:



Anakin Skywalker flew into a Naboo city in his fighter (R2-D2 was in the fighter). Anakin got out. His secret wife Padme was waiting for him. Seeing his scar for the first time she gasped. She touches the scar, then embraced her husband Anakin in a warm hug.

Before they could continue their reunion, Padme was called away on important Senate business. She told Anakin to meet her at her Lake Retreat. It took Anakin some time to get his Starfighter stored away properly, so by the time he arrived at the Lake Retreat, Padme was already there.
(Made up by me to show how the two scenes can work together.)

Anakin and R2-D2 arrived at Padme's lake retreat via boat. Anakin stepped off. He and Padme embraced again, taking up where they had left off. Padme touched Anakin's scar again, and asked him where he got it. Anakin shrugged it off and changed the subject by telling her that they would have ten whole days together. The two come together in a passionate kiss.
