My thoughts on the Clone Wars (and other EU stories)

Timeline/Continuity issues: Entry #2: The Battle of Xagobah

The issue: The Battle of Xagobah as told in Boba Fett books 5 and 6 is placed at 31 months after the Battle of Geonosis. So are a million other things. Thus Timeline gurus everywhere decided that it should be moved to after Obsession if at all possible since that area of the Timeline is so crowded.

However, Asajj Ventress plays a role in Boba Fett 6 so we had to wait and see how her arc in Obsession turned out before making a final judgement on the placement of the Battle of Xagobah.

My solution: Obsession #5 finally came out today. Spoilers ahead. Those who haven't read Obsession may want to avert their eyes.

At the end of the comic, Asajj decides to become independant. She hates the Jedi. She hates Dooku. She wants to get as far away from the war as possible.

In Boba Fett 6 her role is that of a sort of bodyguard for Wat Tambor. As his ship is preparing to go to lightspeed, she, in her usual ship, attack's Boba's ship to buy Tambor some time. Doesn't sound like someone who wants nothing to do with the war, does it? I spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out an explanation that would make putting Xagobah after Obsession make sense. But the same thing kept running through my head.

"If Asajj is fed up with the Sith, the Jedi, and the entire war, why in the hell would she be protecting Wat Tambor from Boba Fett?!"

Now some may still try to place it after Obsession, but the more I read Obsession the more convinced I am that it just wouldn't make sense.

Now, in the Boba book Anakin is by himself and certainly acts like he's not a padwan anymore, so I'm assuming this takes place after his Knighting. So I will be placing Boba 5 and 6 inbetween Anakin's Knighting and the Battle of Rendili unless someone official says I'm wrong.

One more thing. In Republic #73, which is after Rendili but before Obsession, Dooku mentions marshalling forces at Xagobah. However, I don't see this as grounds for putting the Boba books after Obsession. There had already been at least one earlier Battle at Xagobah according to HoloNet News. Why couldn't there be yet another one after the one in the Boba books? After all, Dooku was trying to get as many of the Republic forces as possible to go to the outer rim so that they could strike at the heart of the Republic... Coruscant!

And having said that, I will now head to the movie theater so that I can witness the Battle of Coruscant firsthand! ;) :D
