Wow, its been a long time since I blogged, sorry I was gone so long, I didn mean to ignore this site so much. Somehow I became distracted by other things, first the olympics came along so I was online less then and then I was getting ready for a competition and currently I am ill with a flu- like virus and I am pretty much quarentined in my house. Someone (* Ptmsou I believe) emailed me a couple times, wanting me to blog again, so I suppose I was missed.
I'll try to blog again soon, with a new, fresh sw topic. I have missed blogging a bit, it is quite fun to express what I think and see how you all respond to it.
I suppose one reason I wasn't on this site much lately is I found
this site where I can discuss one of my favorite figure skaters,
Johnny Weir .
Anyways, onto my blog topic.
I recently saw the Disney movie 8 Below. It was quite good but I was shocked by some things in this movie. Since it was only PG I assumed there wouldn't be anything terribly frightening or intense in it. I assumed wrong, there is one scene that scared nearly everyone in the theater.
Disney advertised this movie as a family movie, fairly cheerful and not nearly as intense as it is. This was definitely a case of false advertisement. As I stated earlier, it was a good movie overall but I did not enjoy it very much as it was not at all what I expected.
One reason I was so shocked that it was that strong was because it was a Disney movie and Disney movies tend not to have very intense images in them. I trusted them but I may have to reconsider that. I wanted to see this movie very badly and that is the only reason me and my family saw it. But awhile into the movie I was regretting the fact that we were seeing it.
I suppose I should explain the main plot of the movie, now that i have told you my opinion on it.
8 Below is a movie about a team of speople in Antartica, based more around one particular man and his eight dogs. One of the scientists wanted to go to a particular place to find a rock from Mercury. But it was late in the season and the ice was melting so the man that accompanied him ( the man with the dogs) had to get them there via dog sled instead of snowmobiles.
While they were out there a storm started coming and they had to go back to the base. Fortuntely the scientist found the rock he wanted and then the left. They had some difficulties getting back to the base but they finally did. They and the other memebers of the team had to leave immediately by plane. But there was a problem: there wasn't enough room for the dogs on the plane because they had brought so much gear.
They decided the would have to come back for the dogs though the owner did not want to leave them. They then flew to their headquarters and the weather became even worse and they couldn't go back for the dogs.
The rest of the movie is about the owner trying to find a way to get to his dogs. Naturally it ends well, since it is a Disney movie but I am still shocked by some of the content.
EDIT: Some people who read this blog have wanted to know what was so frightening in this movie so consider this your spoiler warning.
When one of the dogs, which happened to be the youngest one, got separated from the rest he had to fend for himself. He happened to find a large, half eaten Orca lying on the ice. Everything looked peaceful enough so he began to eat it ( which was gross, trust me, lol). Then he stuck his head in further into the skeleton and a large
leopard seal's head pops out, teeth bared! I could have sworn it was a shark when I saw those teeth and it quite frankly freaked me out, even more than part of the first installment of Lord of the Rings did when I was 9 and I am now 14 and it takes alot for a movie to freak me out.
The seal chased the dog and then the rest of the dogs appear above them and the seal goes back to its meal. The youngest dog, appearing to be commiting a act of sheer stupidity goes back to the orca and rips off another piece with his teeth. Of course the seal freaks out and chases him, diving under the water, leaving you in suspense for a few minutes. Meanwhile the other dogs go and eat part of the orca.
Eventually the seal bites one of the dogs in the leg, though it doesn't die. Like I said earlier, the movie ends well simply because it is a Disney movie but I couldn't believe some of this content, it was anti- Disney to me. I expected better from them and this movie honestly should have been PG-13 and I definitely would not recommend this movie for young children.
So you don't think I'm crazy for being freaked out by a seal, I will link to some photo's of the demonic seal it is.

P.S. I chose that picture because the expression on Han's face perfectly shows how I felt I during the frightening scene in the film, lol.
