Clone Troopers and Cloning
Today, I thought that I would cover a topic that has some real world significance. Cloning is a topic that is often debated today. The ablity to clone a living creature is now possible. There are many ethical considerations that come into play when cloning is discussed. Is cloning a human being fundamentally wrong? Is it wrong to clone pets that have died? There are many hard questions that really don't have very good or easy answers. I think that these questions will continue to be a big deal for a very long time. I personally feel that it's a little creepy and morbid to talk about cloning the family dog after the dog dies. You can't tell me that a clone of the dog really replaces the pet that you have lost. It's just better to move on than to try to replace something that, IMO, is irreplacable. The same could be brought up as an arguement against human cloning. There are some scientific discoveries that could be found through cloning and stem-cell research and I think that there are some good that could come from it, but do these good things really outweigh the bad?

To me clone troopers in Star Wars are somewhat questionable in a moral sense. I mean, it just seems incredibly wrong to create a life simply for the single purpose of creating an army. From what I have seen, most of the clones seem to be treated with about the same regard as battle droids. It is true that there are exceptions in some EU material, but in the end they all are willing to follow Order 66 because it is what they are basically "programmed" to do. This does seem to indicate that they were part of Palpatine's plan from very early on, so I guess you could say that they were created for evil purposes to begin with. The fact that the Jedi don't really seem to question the clones existence from very early on does however seem a bit strange. There are some instance in EU books in which some of the Jedi get a look at the way the clones behave and do get to see them more as people than just as soldiers with no other reason for existence. But, the point is the Jedi really never seem to questions using them in the first place. I guess it could be said that at the time of the Battle of Geonosis that the Jedi really didn't have much of a choice in using them, but there is not much indication afterwards that they even tried to discover how they came about or any question as to if it was really right for them to use the clones as they do or even the crestion of the clone.

This seems like it could be a significant thing. I guess the creation of the clones could be seen as just another example of how dark things have gotten in the galaxy and can show how people can overlook certain ideas of right and wrong when things get desperate.

This is just my opinion and is in no way meant to be an exhaustive discussion of this particular topic. Thanks to anyone who actually read through what I pretty much consider to be me rambling. I guess that's enough rambling for now.

I am going to see Episode III again either Sunday or Monday, so maybe I will find something else to discuss that is a little more interesting.
