Who the heck does this blog belong to? Well, I'm Cynthia Cummens, one of those goofy (in a good way!) Star Wars artists. You might have seen some of the kids tutorials I drew for the sw.com, or maybe you've collected some of those sketch cards I did for Topps (if you have one of mine, know that somewhere in Chicago, a hand was cramping from that project).
Anyway, I'm currently on vacation but feel a need to catch up after being made aware that my blog is featured today! Thank god for hotels with wireless internet! My trip began July 13th when we arrived in San Diego with friend and fellow artist, Randy Martinez. We spent the weekend in Artist Alley (where it was freezing cold, by the way - I would've given anything for a cloud of smelly, warm body heat to waft far enough into our neck of the woods to warm things up a bit, but it didn't, and by the end of the weekend, I would have sold my right arm for a space heater) I stopped by the Star Wars pavillion as often as I could, which was itself a destination in the Exhibit hall, seemingly miles from Artist Alley and a challenge to get to once the gazillions of fans trickled in. But I got misty eyed just looking at the giant Vader statue, the lifelike Yoda, hearing the Star Wars music, and watching the unending lines of fans scrambling to get their t-shirts, figures, autographs... Ahh, the Star Wars pavillion
There's so much to be said, about Comic Con, and that's a whole blog entry unto itself! We had another adventure this week! On Wednesday, me and Ian were given a tour of Skywalker Ranch (thank you, Bonnie!!). It was BEAUTIFUL! Everything about the ranch and Big Rock is just stunning - the architecture, the lake (NATURE everywhere!), the vineyards, the seemingly endless collection of paintings and posters. The library was amazing with all the reference books you could imagine and a GORGEOUS stained glass dome over head! It's difficult to describe how it felt to be there, a mixture of amazement and also sadness knowing the movies have ended. But it was a great experience and we were very happy to be there to say the least! I'll be posting pictures at my web site next week for anyone who wants to have a peek:

I mentioned that I'm on vacation, and am currently sitting in a quaint hotel in beautiful San Francisco. My boyfriend and I did a 3 mile hike at Muir woods today - you can't get all the way to SF and NOT cross the Golden Gate to stare in awe at the beautiful red woods! So now I'm beginning to feel the rumblings of hunger that seem much more demanding after a good day hike. And besides, I've written enough already! So we'll be making our way into Chinatown or maybe North Beach for some of that awesome pizza North Beach boasts about (will it compare to Chicago style though?

Thanks for having a read, especially if you read this far! See you at Comic Con 2006!
