Wordle: Super Cool Word Art
Give this tool a try. Wordle creates "word clouds" based on whatever you give it, and the results are surprisingly beautiful.

Just like tag clouds, the words used most frequently are given the biggest typeface, but you can control the font, the color, and the orientation of the words. Here's one for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Here's Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird.

And here's the complete text of Star Wars: The New Essential Chronology.

UPDATE: At JMMC's request, here's the complete text of the original Essential Chronology. Pretty similar, but "Calrissian" pops.

(Thanks to Bully's Comics Oughta Be Fun for turning me on to this find!)

At first, your description made this site sound weird, Dan. But it's actually very interesting. Even ignoring the artistic side of it, it's an interesting way to study an article, story or book. Seeing how few different words are used in a large collection of them.

"Jedi" and "Republic". It'd be interesting to see what the original chronology, before the other prequels, would look like. I'd bet Republic would be smaller, for example.

This would also be interesting for things like history books, the Bible... heck, even a phone book.

Sarlacc-Pitt, very cool!

JMMC, it would be easy to do the Bible, methinks. The full text is probably easily available online. I got the full text of "Alice" from Project Gutenberg: http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

I linked it above! Pretty similar, in fact, but I was surprised to see "Calrissian."
