The Star Wars galaxy is divided into six regions: Core, Colonies, Inner Rim, Expansion Region, Mid Rim, and Outer Rim. Lately I've been thinking about the cultural differences that distinguish those regions.
Not every resident (or every planet) in a given region is going to fit the stereotype. But people like to organize themselves into groups, and I think there would be certain cultural characteristics unique to each region whether its residents welcomed them or not. To put it another way -- how would residents of one region view their neighbors? And how would they view themselves?
Here's my take on it, using American cities as shorthand (apologies for non-U.S. readers). Remember these are primarily cultural divisions, not geographic ones, though geography definitely comes into play:
Core Worlds: Manhattan
Colonies: Brooklyn
Inner Rim: New Jersey
Expansion Region: Detroit
Mid Rim: Des Moines
Outer Rim: Dogpatch
