Thoughts of a Dark Lord

The War Is Over!!!
Well hello there! Long time no type. I've been gone going on about a year now, and so much has happened in the star wars universe in the time since (I mean, Anakin is getting an apprentice, Vader a secret one, and Jacen has just gone nuts). Sorry for such an extended absence (I'm sure many of you reading are wondering who I am, or have forgotten by now), but life intervenes sometimes and a lack of consistent internet connection kept me away. But we can talk about me any time, let's get down to brass tax.

Tonight I am talking about something a little different than what I have done in the past: the FORMAT WAR. WIth the end of the deadly and heated war between HD-DVD and BluRay disc finally in its final stages, a victor has at last emerged. It's been a long hard road with many casualties and not a little bit of mud-slinging in the process. So what exactly does this mean for us as fans? Will we finally be able to see the entire Star Wars Saga released in glorious hi-definition?

At this point, the answer is...maybe. Technically it's a no, with Lucasfilm keeping tight-lipped about it even being a possibility, but one has to beleive that it is going to happen. With the war over, Lucas will not have to split the costs of making the Saga on both formats, and will not have to risk having to re-do them for backing the wrong horse. In all honesty I feel that this is what Lucasfilm has been waiting for before making producing them in a HD capacity.

Just based on what Lucas has done in the past, it seems unlikely that he would not come out with the flims on BluRay. Lucas is a person who likes pushing new technology and using it to his advantage. And with the prequels already having been shot digitally, HD seems like a farily logical step to take. And let's face it, it would just look gorgeous.

Is there another reason for the wait though? I am sure that even though the war is at an end, we may not see the movies on BluRay for sometime (at least another year or two), so it just makes a fan like me wonder if we will see anymore new enhancements to the saga. Perhaps the digital Yoda put into Episode 1? Or maybe even a smiling young Anakin at the end of ROTJ this time? Who knows, but it seems almost a certainty that there will be some additions and enhancements when we the fans finally get it on BluRay.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, although I know a few people cringe at the thought of yet more tampering. But as I have said in the past, the new editions for me, at least, make the Saga feel...new again. It gives me something to looke forward to when I watch for there is something new in it. There is something else that i have to look for and feel good about finding.

But whether you agree with the changes or not, I believe it is pretty much garuanteed that the Saga is most assuredly coming to BluRay. I remain doubtful of seeing all six packaged for DVD, just because as history has shone, Lucas is not one for taking steps backward, but who knows. It may happen just because they will make more money that way, but at the same time look at the precedent of ROTS not comig out on VHS for a similar reason.

Well, I suppose that that is enough of me rambling for now. It feels good to be back among the community and I hope to be able to write more frequently. Remember that my opinions in this are simiply that...my opinions, so try not to take it too seriously. Hopefully you all who remember me will say hello and if you have never heard of me, well, I hope you would check out some of my earlier entries. You can check them out here, in my BLOG INDEX . As always you are free to leave comments and I look forward to hopefully seeing some old friends. Good night and good luck.
