 | Is 3D Star Wars really needed? |
So we are now hearing rumors that Star Wars 3D will be released next spring. And the response from everyone is estatic. But then I for one am not that extremely excited about. Sure haveing them rereleased is awesome, especially so soon. But I think its unfair for people like me that have visual disabilties. I'm incapable of seeing 3D, due to haveing a lazy eye. The way 3D glasses work requires being able to see through both lenses at the same time, which I'm incapable of. Now sure theres a variety of things that you could retort to this, Blind people cant see anything, deaf can't hear it. My qualm is that I'm a huge star wars fan because I can experience everything about it...but now theres something I'll be missing. My only hope is that the Star Wars 3D experience isnt as blurry as others. If it is I'll even miss out on seeing it theatrers again.
Other then my complaint about having a disability, I honestly believe that Star Wars 3D just isn't really needed. Sure it should be awesome in a star wars movie, considering how other people have described what 3D is to me. But I don't know I see the purpose in bring back 3D glasses, unless its improved a million times over. I think it's only going to be a trend and will only work for big name movies like star wars, because people are just gonna see it for the Star Wars name.::sigh:: Sorry I sound so angry, I'm not that mad. I compeletly understand how Lucas is about trying new technologies. If he wasn't like that we wouldnt have Star Wars. But I guess I kinda feel left out...

I would like to see Star Wars at theatres like the Rueben F. Fleet. The ones where the movie is shown on a domed ceiling, so you feel you are a part of it. You don't wear 3-D glasses, but that's still the effect you get. Personally, that's my all time fantasy for Star Wars.

Yes - because you have a lazy eye, we should all do without Star Wars 3D. You know I have a bad knee, so I don't think people should run anymore, anywhere, as when I see them it makes me sad.

I knew I'd get slightly attakced for this, me having a lazy eye isn't the really I'm against it. True I'll admit if I didnt have a lazy eye...I wouldn't be complaining I guess. I'm not trying to stop it, just relaying my thoughts tis all.
PS. I also have a bad knee, but it doesnt stop me from running. Stupid arthrietis.

Like you said, Kueller, 3D has been very unsuccessful, unless in imax. GL may claim to LOVE the 3D, while it is not all that impressive.

My opinion is that it gets costly. I already have all 6 Episodes. I would love a 3D version but as I said, it's costly.

Not if you notice the smiley.
But in a way it's true. I'm sorry you have that condition, but it's like people some time ago complaining that the videos on this site were too big and they had dial-up connections.
I'm still skeptical that we'll get a 3D version as soon as next year. Not so many digital theaters out there for it to be commercailly viable. But it will be a reality in the future and from what I hear, this time it's going to be "real" 3D.
I understand your frustration and if i were in the same situation I'd feel frustrated as well.

But, bottom line, yes, SW in 3D is really needed because along with many other movies in the future, that will be the only way I can think of for people to actually go to the cinemas instead of staying at home watching movies in huge HD Tv's.

DO NOT BE SO STUPID, SITHHAPPENS!!
He is puting across a point of view, not saying that it shouldn't be done. Why not try actually reading something properly before attacking like a drunken Stormtrooper? All he was trying toi say is that he wishes he could experience it the same as you or others might be able to, is saying that so terrible?

But in a way it's true
You would know would you? Of course you have full vision, so anynoe who happens to moan or put across an opinion you do not agree with is a moaning idiot?
Take my advice, and learn it well. Judgew when you've been there, NOT BEFORE. My left eye is dead, so i can understand his concerns. That doesn't mean i want it stopped, but it also don't stop me wishing that i couild experience this new aspect of Star Wars.
IS THAT WRONG? IS IT?

Actually, us lazy eye people CAN see 3D. The glasses simply must be the clear version, like at Diseny. They have clear ones and we were not sure if it would work for me, but it did. So as long as they do not use the blue/red kind, you should be fine, and so will I.

Thats interesting Leialookalike...i still cant see how its possible to work, seeing how you need fusion in order for 3D to work. And seeing how us lazy eyed people dont have that I gave up hope. But if you found a way then maybe everything isn't lost...

It's true, I am legally blind in one eye and able to see in 3D with the clear version 3D glasses. The blue and red don't work for us, but the clear does. If they use that kind, then I wish I could be there when you see in 3D for the first time. It's an amazing experience for those of us who have never had the opportunity.

I definitely agree. That would be awesome to see. I have been to a theater like that and it is an amazing experience. That type of theater would definitely be awesome for the major space battles. As for the 3D movies, I'm not so sure they are needed either. I don't have major problems with my eyes apart from needing glasses, but this seems a little like a desperate attempt to milk SW for all that it's worth. I might be wrong, and it might be pretty cool, I don't know. I'm just not all that excited about it.

i don't think star wars should have audio because i can't hear.
I don't think star wars should have a picture because i am blind.
don't those sound kinda silly?
whether or ono 3d is successful wil depend upon the market (us) reaction. I guess if there are lots and lots of people unable to view it due to a disability, then it will not succeed.

MasterKueller,
Great blog, I don't really think it is necessary to have Star Wars in 3-D. I went to see a 3-D movie, and it really hurt my eyes. But it would still be cool to see it in 3-D, I juse don't think it is needed, Star Wars is great as it is!

I think starwars in 3D is a waste of time. It's still the same story. I think that Lucasarts should consentrate on what happens after Episode VI. New Republic, new Jedi Order etc. I have no desire to see the existing movies in 3D.

I thought that the whole reason for the delay for a lot of theaters to have DLP was that you got the 3D without the glasses with the DLP projectors.

Sorry to hear man!
But you can still watch it, just take off your glasses and enjoy the movie in theatres.
The colours however will be very bright with empathy but still.
I hope some day you'll get to see a movie in 3D man.

Your joking right? I don't know about 3-D Star Wars, but is this blog really needed. This sounds like some stupid joke to me. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean they are going to take it from other people. Lazy eye isn't even a disability, if anyone has a right to complain it is people with real disabillities.

Darth Raven I never really said that it shouldn't happen, I'm just saying is it really needed?
This blog is only meant to say my own problems with it. But I honestly believe that its just another way to bring star wars fans and their money to the theaters. Though I know this, it still wouldn't stop me. But the fact that I have this disability....yes it is one, though its not huge...stops me from seeing it at all. I don't mean to sound selfish, I apologize if I do...I'm only stating how I personaly feel that is all...

I don't think that they would chance releasing this in 3D if they weren't confident that it would be a significant improvement. (As in not sucking, as opposed to all of the 3D movies that have come before. I think that the digital transfer may assist in this process a lot.
I tihnk that we may not feel like it is necessary now, but if it is as good as they want it to be, we may change our minds. GL has stated (and quite correctly so) that theaters need to come up with a reason for people to go to the theaters again instead of waiting for the DVD release.
