A Journey into The Force

I wonder where the Big Dipper is in all of this?
Ok, as I think about Star Wars and all its threading of storylines and subtleties I usually think of obscure ideas and how they might fit into our lives here on Earth ... our one planet full of many of the goings-on featured in the many planets of Star Wars.

And my idea tonight revolves around the thought that each planet in the SW galaxy represents a mood or frame of mind that a character or characters, or the galaxy as a whole is going through at the timepoint of that planet being featured. And that each planet that is represented in a scene can reflect the mood that I might be feeling on any given day with that planet's physical characteristics.

We start off with Tatooine. It is a barren, dry and uncomfortably hot environment that can be connected to both Anakin's and Luke's experience on it. They both felt uncomfortable in being on the planet (as did many of the character's visiting) as they both felt there was more to their lives than that. The unbearableness of the climate could be associated to the climate of their emotions ... too much to handle. If it's too hot in the kitchen, then get out. And get out they both did. The barren nature of the planet represented the barren future they saw if they stayed there ... and took advantage of the first opportunity off that rock. Both opportunites to get off the planet was a surprise to each, but each took it to move on. I feel as if I'm Tatooine some days ... stranded, but knowing there is something more waiting around the corner. And as long as the air conditioner keeps working!

Naboo. It's a paradise to live on. Beautiful lakes, lush green meadows and forests and wonderful mansions to live in. And when Anakin was on that planet he felt at peace with himself because he could be with Padme. He drank in the environment and felt as though he could do anything ... such as blow up a droid control ship and save the day ... and get the girl! The beautiful setting represented his inner peace with satisfying his desire to save the day and later in life, saving his troubled emotions. And I of course have Naboo days ... where I feel on top of things, relishing in the beauty of all that life and this planet has to offer.

Coruscant represents technology and confusion ... much like the confusion that the Republic was going through. The galaxy was in turmoil with the Separitist movement and the secret machinations of Sidious coming to bear. And on Coruscant, Anakin was in confusion. In TPM he felt fear for the abandonment of his mother, and later in his adult life he felt confusion and turmoil about his secret affiliation with Padme. These all helped to lead him to the path of the Darkside, muddled by the various temptations that existed on Coruscant. And I of course can feel the pulse from daily life on "Coruscant". This planet represents our normal way of life here on Earth, and the fast paced craziness.

Geonosis, to me, represents the state of battle or war that we as humans continually find ourselves in. There seems always to be conflict ... whether studying it historically, or looking at it in modern day analysis with Iraq, or Afghanistan or any other geographic area that is affected by this tragic state of affairs. War is war. And Geonosis was the start of a war in the GFFA that would change the face of that galaxy ... and one which would see the triumph of an evil that knew no boundaries. And Anakin felt this war within himself as well. He felt torn between moving on with the Jedi and the Jedi Code, or moving on with Padme. And of course the war inside of him that saw him destroy the Tusken camp would move him further to the Darkside than he could have known.

Hoth represents the "chilling" reminder that they could not hide forever from the inevitable. Even in our own lives, it's nice to be able to hide out from things and chill out, but it doesn't always last. Eventually you have to move on and find a new home ... which the Rebels had to do. Get out before the real invasions starts!

I like Dagobah because it represents a reminder that the best things in life can come from the most simple of things. Like looking at a flower and imagining its start from a seed, or exploring a cave to discover who you really are, or may be destined to be, or simply admiring the wildlife and nature that the planet has to offer. To sit back and be shrouded in the cover of nature, to better understand life and your part in it. I love observing nature and allowing it to fill my senses to try and better understand it to get where I have to be. Perhaps that's what Yoda had intended as well. And Luke came to learn his Jedi powers from a simple environment ... he didn't know he had the potential within himself to be such a powerful Jedi, and learned much of this from the natural setting he found himself in ... and the nature of his true self.

Well, that's all the planets I wish to cover for now. Perhaps I'll post another entry as I think upon some of the other locations in the SW universe and how they might relate to our own precious planet that we call home, filled with many of the characteristics of the many SW planets.
