A Journey into The Force

What will you leave behind?
As I sit and reflect on my own life, I often wonder what I would like to be known for. What would I want people to remember about me when it's my time to "become one with the Force"? What makes me proud to leave behind as a memory? Now I don't intend to be sombre with this entry, I just want to point out, with the help of our saga in the GFFA, that our words and actions of the present can determine our legacy in the minds of those we leave behind.

In my life I try to be as kind and polite and understanding as possible. Perhaps to a fault. Sometimes certain situations call for tough action which has to be mustered, but isn't impossible. But on the whole I tend to lead my life being respectful of the people and environment around me ... to be otherwise would go against the moral fibre I feel it takes to be a decent person on this planet. So I'd like to be remembered for the kind acts and words I employ each day, and the notion that one person can make another person feel respected and good about themselves.

And what lessons can we take away from the characters in our favourite saga? What have some of them left behind as their legacy?

Of course, first to mind is Anakin. We could look at him as leaving behind a legacy of evil and hatred as Darth Vader ... causing death and destruction at the flick of a finger ... in the eyes of those he oppressed.

But what of the others who knew him? His mother remembered him to be a kindly and generous young boy who only looked out for the good in others and wanted to help them. She didn't raise him with the intention to become a powerful lord, capable of hate and destruction, knowing only his fear as his guide. She knew the Anakin who had dreams of being a good Jedi, helping others with confidence and good intentions.
And what he left behind with her was that emotion, as well as the physical manifestation of that emotion in C3P0. Threepio was the culmination of Anakin's imagination and innocence ... he represented the desire Anakin held in creating a good and decent life. Threepio didn't have an evil servo-motor in him and that was the result of Anakin's good-natured ability ... a notion he left behind on Tatooine with his mother as he set off for his new home in the Jedi Temple. Where he would develop a new outlook on life.

And as his life progressed he encountered many people who would remember him in a certain light. Obi-Wan and Yoda certainly had their minds made up as to how Anakin's legacy finally came to be. What Anakin left behind on Mustafar was worlds apart from what he left behind with his mother on Tatooine. By then he was Darth Vader but in my mind he somehow still had Anakin connected to his soul when he fought Obi-Wan. He truly didn't want to fight his former master but had no other choice at that point in time. And when he was struck down, he wasn't leaving a notion of goodwill and innocence behind as he did with Threepio years before ... he was leaving his whole former self. The pieces of his body that were severed by Obi-Wan's lightsabre became the last remnants of his old life that were left behind on Mustafar. And the new life he would carry on was all that was left in that tortured and burned body and soul.

But he regained that life back years later through someone who saw the good and innocent Anakin that had still existed (and ironically enough, still existed in C3P0 to that very day!).

And Obi-Wan certainly left behind his legacy in the form of being a true and steadfast Jedi who only believed in making things right for the galaxy. He lived his life as a Jedi Knight and Master to the fullest of his ability, and lived his life on Tatooine to ensure that right would eventually overcome wrong. He took the last bit of Anakin, his lightsabre, and passed it on to Luke to take up the mantle as the saviour of the galaxy and the future of the Jedi. Obi-Wan left behind very little in terms of physical attributes, save for his hut on Tatooine and any goodies discovered within, but his spirit and fortitude would live on with Luke for many years to come, guiding him and making him stronger. And this is what truly helped Luke in overcoming the odds and saving the galaxy, and his father's soul. And in my mind, this stands as a tribute to the amazing legacy that Obi-Wan's life came to be. Both Luke and Anakin would not have been saved if not for Obi-Wan's bravery as a Jedi.

So, again, I look at my own life and what I wish to leave as my "legacy". Certainly it won't be as colourful or "action-packed" as the saga in the GFFA, but I wish it to be as amazing and meaningful as it can be.

I want to make a movie that more than one person has on their shelf - and I want in some way to be part of the Star Wars legacy - whether it is through being involved with Lucasfilm, or doing something that gets referenced in Wookieepedia :)
That, and a kid called Harrison.
Then I can die happy.

Half of the people who have the heart condition I have are dead by age 30 and on 2/24 I will be 34; so my time is wrapping up with each passing year.

What I would want to be remembered for is being a servant of Jesus Christ. I don't know if the people in my life think of me this way, but I certainly hope so. I KNOW that if it were not for Jesus I would not be here today.

I'm not sure how this relates to "Star Wars", except in ROtJ when the Emperor says to Luke "So be it, JEDI", I thought about how he made "Jedi" sound like a bad word and that some people feel the same about Christ and His Christian followers. I would hope, therefore, that even people who dislike me would be able to say "he was a servant of Christ Jesus".

I have no doubt that this is your destiny and legacy, nobby, and it will happen! And the kid named Harrison is very cool!

I KNOW that if it were not for Jesus I would not be here today.
Indeed ... and I hope that each passing year sees you here and well, F4Y.

I
Love
This
Entry.

Again.

This line...

but I wish it to be as amazing and meaningful as it can be.

That's how I want to be remembered. People may say that ami was a scarred and imperfect person, but I want people to remember how I touched them...I want to be remembered as amazing and meaningful...I want to have a positive impact on the lives of the people who know me. Obviously, as you said about Anakin's legacy, it will be different things to different people because *I* am different things to different people (aren't we all?), but I want it to be oh-so-memorable. In a good way, of course. (more)

When I was 10, we moved from one suburb of this great city to another, and my best friend in my old neighborhood made me a card that I keep to this day. In her very sweet, 12-year-old way, she wrote that I always knew what to say to make people feel good. That stuck with me, and I try to live that to this day.

To that end, I'd like my words to touch people...my written words as well as what I say to people in person.

GREAT stuff, DH.

Good entry. It's interesting seeing what legacy each character in SW left behind. You wonder what Watto's legacy is...

What I would want to be remembered for is being a servant of Jesus Christ.

I'd say that's a very good goal to go for.

I struggle with this question from time to time. What do I want to be remembered for? It's funny because there are times when I forget that I can make a difference in someone's life and be remembered for something even if I'm not a famous person. Little actions mean so much to some people.
I still can't answer the question, other than what everyone else has said here so far. I want to be remembered for being kind, and being there for people, for being a fun person... I hope that somewhere, something I do will have a big impact on somebody.

Wow DH...you never cease to amaze me with your thoughts!!

So I'd like to be remembered for the kind acts and words I employ each day, and the notion that one person can make another person feel respected and good about themselves.

Very well said!! I try to live my life in many similar ways as you do...and I hope that those whose lives I touch remember me in that way. Like ami said...we are all different things to different people, and they will remember us in those ways. Hopefully it will all be in the good ways we try to think ;)

Amazing entry!!

What do you think Mace and Qui-Gon are remembered for?
Well, Mace for his determination to see the Lightside exist and thrive. And his cool name. And Qui-Gon for his purity as a Jedi ... only serving the Force and treating others with the respect that deserve it. and his cool name.

Hopefully it will all be in the good ways we try to think
Exactly, ps77. if we project our good ways that is what folks see and remember. Thanks!

Your entry was kinda uplifting... 'cause it made me realize that no matter what my legacy is, I'm fairly certain it won't have quite so many stains as that of Anakin or Obi-Wan! :D

the physical manifestation of that emotion in C3P0. Threepio was the culmination of Anakin's imagination and innocence
I never thought of 3PO like that. He gets a bad rap because of his big mouth and neuroticism, but as you said, "he didn't have an evil servo-motor in him".

The legacy I'd like to leave is that hopefully the advice I've given to my friends and family has truly helped them, and that the values and ethics I'm passing onto my daughter will stick, and she can pass them on to her kid(s).

Once again, a profound entry, DH!

Wow wow wow!! That's AWESOME, Darth Hiram!! :D *insert yodacon with eyes popping out here*

Definitely. Same here. I want to let people know how much He loves them. Sorry to get off topic here, Darth Hiram, but in light of recent events in the U.S., I just gotta say this: GOD DOES NOT HATE HOMOSEXUALS!!! HE LOVES EVERYONE! HE HATES SIN, NOT PEOPLE!!!! Any Christian that tells someone that God hates them is WRONG.
