A Journey into The Force

The Genesis of Anakin
So I was thinking about the creation of Anakin's character in the Star Wars universe (inspired by Granny-Wan's entry about our favourite hero / villain), and got to relating it to the Book of Genesis and creation of the Earth.

So here's my version of the Book of Star Wars.

Now I'm not intending to make this a completely religious entry, I merely wanted to put into context the growth of Anakin's character and how I felt it was similar to Genesis.

I'll not quote entire verses or chapters for fear of running on too much, but I want to rather get the theme from each of the days that God created and what happened. I'll quote if necessary, to back up my thoughts.

On the first day, God created Light. And He divided the light from darkness, and the evening and morning were the first day.
And if I relate it to Star Wars, Anakin was created, in what we can call for argument's sake, the first movie. Here was the dividing of light and dark ... Anakin came into the world a kind and caring soul, but with a darkness within him that would divide his entire being. Whoever created Anakin, created him with Light and Dark.

And on the second day, God made the firmament in the midst of the waters and called it Heaven, which divided the waters from the waters.
And in the second movie, Anakin was certainly a divided soul. He knew what it was to be a Jedi and live on one side of the waters. But he was also testing the other side of the waters in the Darkside ... giving into primal rage and fear in the Tusken camp and also heeding the advice and guidance of Palpatine ... a snake lurking in the shadows. His Heaven was Padme and she kept him divided between the two sides, but that firmament was on shaky ground as we would well find out.

On the third day, God created the dry land and let the earth bring forth grass and herbs yielding seed after his kind. And he also saw that it was good..
And we know what happened in the third movie. Anakin turned to the Darkside ... creating a land unto himself that would bring forth its own crop. He yielded a crop of destruction and fear that would almost wipe out an entire Order of peace loving beings. However he also brought into this land his offspring that were good and who would take up the mantle of peace and love. The fruit from the tree that Anakin planted would be the saving grace in his life and the galaxy's.

And on the fourth day, God created two lights that would each rule over the day and night, to divide the light from darkness ... a greater light over the day and a lesser light over the night, and would also be for seasons and for years.
And in the fourth movie, the greater light would be Luke and Leia combined to shine brightly as the new hope in the galaxy, that will outshine the lesser light of Vader, who was ruled only by the darkness. Though they didn't know they were siblings, or saviours of the galaxy, their light of goodness and pure-heartedness would shine brighter than Anakin / Vader's, who only felt the cold, dim light of the night. Anakin had truly sunk into the void of being Darth Vader and was only living by the lesser light of his newfound existence.

And on the fifth day, God created the creatures of the waters and air and told them to be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas and let fowl multiply in the earth.
And in the fifth movie, we see a growing movement of creatures that want to mulitply and be good. The Empire is deeply entrenched in many systems and there is certainly unrest ... the citizens of the galaxy want a change and the rebels must keep pushing on. They are growing in numbers and want peace. And Luke has multiplied himself in his knowledge and understanding of the Force. Yes, he made mistakes, but he is trying to spread himself out to a greater knowledge of his new world. And Anakin / Vader was trying to spread his own vision of the galaxy through fear and intimidation ... both sides were locked in a battle of multiplying for their own survival. And of course, Vader found out about his own fruits, which started him on a slightly new path.

And on the sixth day, God created all the creatures and made man in his own image. He created male and female and blessed them and told them to be fruitful and multiply and have dominion over the earth and he saw all that he had made and beheld that it was very good.
And in the sixth movie Luke was created into the Jedi that he was meant to be in order to bring good into the galaxy. His image and his goodness was multiplied unto the whole galaxy and he gave life back to the dry land that had existed. He also gave life back to the hard world that had become Anakin. Anakin had become the creature of Darth Vader, but there was still good underneath that sea of stormy waters. And Luke was the firmament that finally separated the light from dark that had been with Anakin from his genesis. And on this day, both men were created into the image of God, through their selfless acts.

And on the seventh day God ended his work and he rested.

Funny there is no seventh movie. I guess we can all rest in the good works of Star Wars.
