Yoda's Rules
What do we learn about Yoda in ROTS that we didnt know before?Well for one thing we learn that he is a very inflexible person, so wrapped up in his Jedi dogma that he cant see the forest for the trees.Yoda,if so perceptive you are, why notice that Anakin was boinking Padme?Obi-Wan knew; so what is your problem,O perceptive one? He is the Chosen One, and you pay so little attention to him that you can't even tell he's chafing violently at the restrictions placed on him?Yoda'restrictions.Yoda, for all his supposed wisdom, preaches the virtue of selflessness not because he believes he should help others, but because thats the jedi code. The code now exists for its own sake, and over the centuries, hes forgotten why.The Jedi Order has no particular mandate to help people.its only mandate is to keep peace and uphold the code.
Of what use is a moral code if it does not tell you to help others? This is a question which Yoda apparently never thought to ask.Even in the Empire Strikes Back, when Luke wants to go save his friends, Yoda councels him to let them die.Yoda is not an evil person, but he is not a caring person either. He's more about following rules.
Yoda obviously never saw Anakins fall coming, because after eight centuries of introducing Jedi from infancy,he simply couldn't imagine a Jedi not having the same blind faith in the rules that he did.Love, jealousy, hate anger are all emotions, all passions, all the paths to the Dark Side, but caring and sympathy are emotions too,and Yoda threw out the baby with the bathwater.

Hmmmmmmmm, interesting ideas. I think that Yoda tried to much to not cause problems. I fully support Windu's idea to kill Palpy, his idea would cause problems however, and Yoda chose to avoid problems while not acting upon more important causes. And when 900 years old you are, set in your ways you are.

May the Force be with us all! God bless!

If I can make a counter-point, Yoda DID see some bad stuff happening in Anakin's future.

But agree on you taking this boy as your Padawan learner, I do not....The Chosen One the boy may be; nevertheless, grave danger I fear in his training.
- Yoda, The Phantom Menace

He saw it, he tried to tell the other council members, and they overrode him.

Yoda is not an evil person, but he is not a caring person either.

Again, I think the point was missed in Empire. He wasn't telling Luke to let his friends die. He said if Luke honored what they fought for, he would continue his training.

Yoda was sharpening a blade that would be used against the Empire. He wasn't unfeeling, he was determined to stop a reign of tyranny that was killing millions.

In '95, I helped friends pack for a deployment to Bosnia. It wasn't that I didn't care, but they had to stop the slaughter that was happening. President Clinton was no more "uncaring" than any other President, before or since.

Sometimes hard decisions have to be made.

Speaking as a teacher, I think that Yoda was depicted well as a caring educator of the Younglings, and had an excellent rapport with them, and an appreciation of the youthful intellects.

He also had a lot to do. After all, Anakin wasn't Yoda's padawan.
