Star Wars fans, I know that this has been thought about for a while, but as I was reading the Attack of the Clones novel I noticed that in chapter seven Yoda and Mace are talking about the prophecy of the Chosen One. They say that the prophecy is that the dark side will rise to power and that a chosen one will be born to bring balance to the force. Now the jedi believe that Anakin might be the chosen one. That is until he falls to the dark side, but of course we know that he will return and bring balance. But is he really bringing balance? Or is it someone else? Is it Anakin or Luke? Or even Ben Skywalker? First I'm going to talk about Anakin.

Anakin was born with a strong connection to the force. He was born with no father. Only a mother. It was possible that he was concieved by the force by Darth Plagueis. He was taken by Qui-Gon Jinn and raised as a Jedi Knight. He was turned to the dark side by Darth Sidious. Years later his son saved him from the dark side, and Anakin defeated the Emperor and his dark side, Darth Vader. Finally bringing balance to the force by destroying the two Sith, Darth Sidious and Darth Vader.

Now the possibility of it being Luke.

Luke was born right after Anakin's fall to the dark side, along with his sister Leia. They were seperated from each other very early in their lives. Luke was then raised by his Aunt Beru and his Uncle Owen on Tatooine. After the death of the only family he had ever known he left with Obi-Wan Kenobi on a mission to Alderaan. First they headed off to Mos Eisley and met Han Solo, captain of the Millenium Falcon. On reaching Alderaan they found it to have been blown away, and were then captured by the Empire. They rescued the princess and left the Death Star behind with one less passenger. Next the Battle of Yavin took place where the rebels won. Three years later, Luke was told to go to Dagobah and learn from the Jedi Master Yoda. After seeing a vision of his friends suffer, Luke heads off to Bespin. There he fights Darth Vader, where Vader tells him of his true parentage. One year later, Luke rescues Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, and then heads off to Dagobah to complete his training. There Yoda tells him of one other Skywalker and then becomes one with the force. Luke leaves Dagobah to rejoin the rebels and fight in the Battle of Endor. Luke surrenders to Vader and the two confront each other. Luke wins and is hurt by the Emperor. The prophecy was that the dark side would rise and a chosen one will bring balance to the force. Luke did that. He was born when the dark side just gathered it strength, and he destroyed Darth Vader.

Now what if its Ben Skywalker.

Now I have only read Betrayal in the series but I do know what happens after that. Ben was born very strong in the force just as his father. He became a padawan of his cousin Jacen Solo. Jacen turned to the dark side and Ben tried to kill him after his mothers death. Ben was born when the Sith where still out there. If he kills Jacen he could be bringing balance to the force.

I think it was Anakin Skywalker, the true Chosen One. But thats just my opinion. Comments welcome. MTFBWY!
