A Letter to No One (no one that'll listen at least)
Well, my membership comes due on Nov. 24. And I decided a little while ago that I'm quiting Galaxies. I just need to sign admin rights of my homes and inventory to a friend and get my refund for "The Trials of Obi-Wan".

I'm not a vet. I joined after the last CU. So I don't EVEN feel like I have the right to complain like the true vets do. But I know I hate the new CU. I hate the movement. I hate the interface. I hate the combat. I hate the gameplay. nothing new is in any way an improvement of what we were playing two weeks ago. It's just not a fun game to play anymore.

Matter of fact, while I'm going down in flames, let's pick up the speed a bit:

To the Designers, Developers and general employees of the game "Star Wars: Galaxies,
To the employees, modirators and "Powers That Be" at Sony Online Entertainment associated with game "Star Wars:Galxies":

I hate you. I hate you all. Every last damn one of you. Right down to every man, woman and child associated in any way what so ever with the above mentioned individuals. Be they family, friends or otherwise. Damn you all.

I hate you all because you made something fun. You made something that was a really nice change of pace. You made a place that was nice place to visit. Yep. You made it and then ya took it away. What makes it even worse is that you did it like a thief in the night. Without any proper warning. Without any time to prepare. And with the intent of duplicity. Mere days after hood winking many of your loyal customers into purchasing a $29.95 expansion. An expansion that now just ain't fun no more (Yeah, yeah I already know about the damn refund offer. So don't bother trying to placate me with that noise).

And I understand it's all about the bottom line. I get that. It's just business. I'm not soo naive as not to realize this. But the fact that you jackasses did it in a pretty obvious attempt to "get one by on us dumb ol' gamers" just ticks me off that much more. You thought you were gonna just slide some new product up onto the table and that everyone would just take their bite before they realized what they'd eaten and spat it out. But it didn't work like that, did it?. Nope. The worm turned just as quickly as you all should have expected it to. I guess we're just a lil' more savy that you clever "Big Wigs" gave us credit for.

But that doesn't change anything. The game that's out there is all anyone's gonna get. SOE and LucasArts will NOT change things back (I'm pretty sure the new Galaxies "Starter Kit" is already sitting in the stock rooms of most of the major retailers (Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart ect.) acrosss America alone, waiting to be put on shelves when the release date hits. And ya know they're not gonna pull a mass return on all of those units). Also, they will NOT provide "classic" Galaxies servers for vet players. That would constitute an admission that a mistake was made within the corporate line reguarding the descision to create and implement the new CU. It would be a sign of weakness for SOE or LucasArts to do such a thing. So don't put a ton of hope into that kind of "compromise" by SOE and LucasArts. And most importantly, they DON'T care whether ANYONE plays Galaxies anymore. Here's the reason why.

Star Wars: Galaxies has been a phenomonal failure for LucasArts since Day 1. It has never sold as well as any of the mega-popular MMPRPG's. It has never had the overwhelming popularity that games like Everquest or World's of Warcraft have had. Fore even though it has a pretty hefty player base (Well at least until lately), it has never been strong enough that it has made any kind of true profit for LucasArts. Not the kind they want at least.

As such, I propose that the recent CU upgrade was not designed to bring in new players. It was designed to drive away old ones. Because if enough people quit Galaxies over time, SOE and Lucas will be able to shut down Galaxies completely with absolute legitimacy on their side. The reason for this? To release a new "better" MMPRPG that is likely already in development (Or possibly already completed) by LucasArts to replace the "sad, flawed but ultimately loved" failed attempt at the MMPRPG market that was Star Wars: Galaxies.

How much easier it would be to blame it's demise on "poor sales" (A move that SOE and LucasArts would hope to make them look the victim of all of this nonsence rather then simply shutting it down outright and looking the cruel villain to thousands of true blue Star Wars and Lucas fans. This way it looks more like an accidental fire rather than the arson that it acctually IS.

I'm sorry to even be making this post. I doubt it will stay up for very long. And that's understandable. But I had to say what was in my heart at least once before I say goodbye to my fellow guildies and bid Galaxies a final farewell.

I'm a proud old school Star Wars fan. From back in 1977 to right about now. So I don't like "biting the hand" of an institution I care a great deal for like I'm doing here. I really don't. But the "corporate line" that's been taken in this whole situation just burns me to know end. The shady nature of all of this is a crummy way of doing business. I mean c'mon. Don't #####foot around and sneak some new bollux onto loyal customers when they're not looking. If you want or need to get rid of an old game because it's not profitable to the company anymore, cool. Fine. Great. Do what you gotta do. But, please, Declare or Shut the **** Up! K? Just pick one or the other. K? Think maybe y'all might consider doing that from now on? Hmmmm? It 'd sure save Y'ALL a lot of grief in the end.

In the end I'd just like to say something I heard many moons ago whilst watching "The Outlaw Josey Wales". Something that sums all of this up pretty nicely: "Don't #### down my back and try to tell me it's raining." 'Cause as slow on the draw as I am, I ain't that damn slow.

Thank you to StarWars.com for the opportunity and space to post this "Letter to No One". I know no one "In power" here will read this. That's a given. Again, I'm just not naive enough to believe that they would. But I'm still glad I said what I had to say.
