In My Greedy Hands: The Original Hildebrandt Poster
It arrived yesterday...With the quality of the lithograph, I spent some time really getting a close look at this poster >CLICK HERE TO SEE IT<. The brush work is so beautiful, and the composition and style is iconic.

Forums.starwars.com member TheJediCharles had these wonderful words for this wonderful piece of Star Wars art:

"That is one of my favorite Star Wars images of all time. Being the cover of the novelization, I remember visually digesting it for what seemed like hours on end as a kid. While so much original Star Wars stuff seems merely "cool" yet pulled into the present by recent films, this one image seems to have somehow managed the dual feat of remaining an image that feels of the era, but not for reasons of it being campy, but despite it looking cool....Many Star Wars images from that period which aren't corny are usually burned out from over-presentation and over-usage. This one has remained special."

I totally agree with those sentiments. There is such a mystery and romance in the ambiguity of the figures, who must have been painted before casting. Though it is so romanticized and different from the actual film, it perfectly captures the spirit of the movie. If they did such a romantic version today, say for the prequels, it would be roundly rejected by the damned literalists in the crowd. There's always a group of fans who decry anything that strays from a realistic, literalist presentation.

Did I mention the poster is signed by the Brothers Hildebrandt? :D Don't be too jealous, because now I am flat broke. :_|
